Dock shortcuts disappeared

Using my samsung galaxy phone today then I went back to home page to find that the only button on my "dock" is 'application'. Does anyone know how to get contacts, call and message buttons back?

got it working, pretty simple really.

press applications
press the menu (left) soft key and select edit
press and hold messaging then drag it to the dock
press the back (right) soft key to save changes
