The battery life on my G1 is pretty good, but I probably don't use it as heavily as many of you do. However, I will be away from home soon and in a situation where I will have no way to recharge the G1 from 4 a.m. until into the evening, and be using it a lot, so I have been looking into portable cell phone chargers, which I have heard about before.

One that interests me is the Turbo Charge(tm) TC400 Portable Cell Phone Charger, which uses a single AA battery and comes with a number of adaptors to hook to cell phones to recharge them on the go. They are fairly inexpensive, running from about $8 to $20 online, depending on if open package or sealed NIB. In the pictures I find online, it looks like one of the connectors is a mini-USB, which of course is what would be needed for the G1.

Has anyone had any experience with this simple portable recharge device, on the G1 or any other cell phone? If it works, it seems it would be very practical, as it is inexpensive and takes AA batts (personally, I already have rechareable AA batts). If you do an online search or ebay search with that name, you will find these chargers.

Or if instead someone has experience with any other portable cell phone chargers, good or bad, that would be useful information for G1 owners.

I just looked up the review. I got the review for the TC2. It got good reviews.

Thanks.

I hadn't seen the Tc2 until you pointed it out -- it looks to be a more sophisticated unit than the TC400. The Tc2 takes two AA batts, the TC400, only one. The Tc2 has an on/off switch and a batt life indicator, and I don't believe the TC400 has either of those features.

Sounds like you have already bought your G1, but for those that haven't, I bought mine at Costco, and they include a car charger and a Jabra Bluetooth headset
