Trying SOOOOOOO Hard to love this phone...

Been a Blackberry user for years but have tired of the interface - Loved the idea of the G1 but am getting really frustrated after 24 hours of use. Here goes...

1) My SD card is recognized one minute, then it's not, then it is, then it's not....you get the picture.

2) I get a ton of important emails and, although checked in settings, I get NO notifications of such on the home screen/status bar. My GOD! Even the mostbsic of devices gives you this.

3) I have tried for HOURS to download an app...ANY app - I only get the "starting download" bar - just will not download.

I know I have 14 days as a new Tmo customer but I may only last another 24 hours...

are you sure you bought a G1? Your issues sound atypical. Could be coverage issues in your area.

thats funny...yeah, I'm pretty sure I bought a G1 from a TMo retail store in Chicago. I have read a lot of other posts describing similar SD card issues as well. Signal? Right now, I have 3 bars, EDGE. If someone can tell me how to address these issues that would be great.

1) My SD card is recognized one minute, then it's not, then it is, then it's not....you get the picture. - Try your SD card in another phone and see if your still having the same problem. (A hard reset might also solve this problem.)

If this continues, You should contact T-Mobile more help. (Also try getting a different phone and see if your still having the same issues.)

try searching the threads for some of your answers, you might find something. About the SD issue, it happened to me a couple of times in the beginning, and I've had no issues since.

Other than that, i've never had an issue with notifications or with downloading apps here in the Chicago area.

The first time I tried an OTA update I had the same problem. I have also had a couple of downloads just say "starting download" and never progress.
Turning the phone on and off fixed both issues.

I agree. The G1 isn't for everybody.

1) that has happen to me also call CS. I have received my replacement today will give it a second chance.

2) you have to set up your email account I dont use google. Sorry Google and set your settings for notification and you will get a notification of your emaisl cause I do. Well send video if need to see let me know.

3) I did not hav any problem downloading any apps

if i was in your shoes i would feel i have the following choices.

btw i despise bb and their OS. i despise how the web looks and how apps look on their phone. maybe the storm will fix that. haa

but anyway if i were you i would

1. wait it out because it will get better

2. return the phone continue using my current phone so i can save my upgrade for 6 months down the line when the android OS has worked out most of the kinks.


but me being the nerd i am i would want to be a part of the peeps that helped make it a better OS by working through the issues and giving my input on how to make it better.

if you return it, i stress to you not to upgrade to a newer phone. you may regret it 6 months down the line and you have to wait 12 more months for an upgrade. ha

if you are having device problems call tmobile and say...."this doesnt work right...give me a new one" and after them telling u a laundry list of things to try if all dont work then the warranty says they can send u another....this happend with me when i had my wing...although the replacement did the same EXACT things lol i got the g1 shortly after.....tmobile has #1 cs for a reason

Regarding your SD card issue. Make sure you're not plugged in via USB! The SD card is not recognized by G1 apps, it seems, while you're connected.
