Alright, T mobile is selling new Clear Case for the G1s at their own stores now. Today I got one and it's really nice. It does make the phone a little bigger than it already is but it gives it more grip and feels good in the hands. It also comes in 3 pieces which cover the back, the bottom piece of the screen and the screens borders.
and it goes for $10 w/ tax. Really good deal...

aswesome case. I think i might pick one up. I know the backside of my phone will start to show allot of abuse sooner or later since i always rest it on its backside. This should help me out with that.

here is the link for the exact same cover that KDViper has. But it is more expensive. Around 15 bucks plus S&H. So buying it from T-Mobile would be the best bet.

the tabs on the back are kickstands. i guess to have your phone stand up on a table while watching a movie?

Thats cool. Yeah those are kickstands for hands free operation.

Ha, beat me to it... was gonna write this up when I got around to it, but anyway, I picked one up as well a couple of days ago...

I generally like it, although it makes the phone feel much bulkier, which only bothers me once I stick it in my pocket. It's about the same size and weight as my old HTC PPC6700, LOL! It also makes the phone feel slick, which only bothers me when I'm kinda greazy.

As far as the good goes: Dual KICKSTANDS... absolutely love them, total dream come true. You can even kick out both of them at once to keep it elevated above your desk while it's recharging, so if you spill something it wont get swamped, and believe me I've swamped several devices over the years. I was at McDonalds eating my Filet-O-Fish (FTW!) and had the G1 propped up in the middle of my tray working it with my pinkie (only non greasy digit) with the screen kicked out... awesome.

The screen still needs a separate protector, but otherwise this thing turns the G1 into a hover-tank with see-thru armor.

Now if they could only make a kickstand that can attach to one of those Invisible Shield type cases you could have the best of both worlds.

Oh, almost forgot... this kind of makes the "sqeak" go away, but introduces it's own little squeaks.

I guess I'll grab one of these next week, it would help my G1 stay snug in my vertical case.

Please, DO NOT BUY THESE CASES unless you want to really scratch up your phone! Dirt, sand, etc gets trapped in your edges of your case and over time as the phone shifts a little within the case it rubs against the dirt. I learned this the hard way with my previous Sony Ericcson K810. If you Do plan using these cases, please try to take it off at least once ever 1-2 weeks to clean it up, other wise if you do what i did and opened it up 4 months later, i can promise that you will be in for a great surprise...

man is this the truth it happend to my blackberry pearl i had to replace most of the parts for that phone and i never put a skin or a hard case on it again. Parts dont come cheap for any phone (90 bucks to repair my rails back cover and a new plastic screen on my BB but i love my pearl:))

Oooo, good advice. The same thing happened to me with my old iPod. I had a plastic case like this and dirt and stuff got trapped underneath it and scratched up my iPod. :(

Not only does it scratch the casing, but for phones that cover up the LCD screen, it totally messes it up too! Be very cautious guys!

1) These cases break the moment you drop them - they just crack instantly

2) traps dirt and scratches

3) makes your G1 even bulkier!

If you do get it, just please make sure you clean it often to prevent damage to your G1 or any other phone!

Do you have a protection flim over your screen (e.g. Invisible Shield, Bodyguardz)? Or did the clear case also come with some kind of screen protect for it?

ministersin
11-07-2008, 03:41 PM
Seems like a silly case to me.

1) it does not protect your screen (which is where scratches are most likely to impact daily usage)

2) it does not protect your screen, which is where you are most likely to give it scratches because you use it everyday (and then you'll have to deal with number 1 all the time).

3) It provides no shock protection. I would only consider something like this if it were a gel. A hard plastic case just gives it something else to bang against and provides no buffer in a fall.

4) It makes your G1 very very very ugly

Damn you guys make me feel bad buying this case. Ill clean once a week but damn
But w.e I like it so its all good. The thing is it can't protect your screen with its case because then how'd we be able use the touch screen then? But I love the kickstands on this baby! Noww I can watch youtube vidoes on my desk

Awww, don't feel bad. Just be happy that someone made you aware of the possibility of scratches from dirt. Now you know to clean the case weekly. :)

My wife brought home the clear case from T Mobile for me.

I wasn't really thinking of getting that type of case, but she uses a clear case with her Curve and loves it, so she surprised me and brought it home for me. Figured I can always return it, if I didn't like it.

I had previously put the InvisibleSheild on my screen, which I was able to position perfectly! You can NOT tell it's on, except for the egg shell ripple effect, and you can only see that in direct daylight. When the unit is turned on, you really don't even notice the IS screen protector.

As for the clear case, I was surprised how well it fit. It protects the entire G1 except:
1. The screen (but, as I said, I have IS for that)
2. The hardware buttons and surrounding area.
3. The small micro card door.
4. The volume rocker.
5. miniUSB at the bottom, but that already as a small rubber plug

Basically, almost the entire phone is protected once you install a screen protector and the T-Mobile clear case. What's really nice is, I slip it in my pocket, and when I want to use it, I can pull it out and start talking, or surfing or whatever.

Previously, while using the included slip case, I had to remove it from the slip case, and then either hold the slip case, stick it in a pocket, whatever, but I had to do something with it.

Anyways, until a nice, magnet free case comes out, for about $7 this clear case is really nice.

Oh I'm getting this.

I got the "Rubberized" hard plastic case and it SUCKS! Just 3 days into having it, its already peeling at the edges. I guess how they make it rubberized is with a rubber sticker that goes over the black plastic case.

I like this one way better.

I dropped my phone on a hard cement floor at a parking lot, and the T-Mobile G1 clear plastic case saved my G1. It was an accidental drop from about 4 feet! This is a good case, and worth the $10. I am sure my G1 would not have survived without it.

Somebody mentioned that these cases break when dropped. I dropped my phone, and my case did not break. I am still using it.

Came across this thread researching a hard case for my G1. I have a BestSkinEver skin on it right now, but the edges of the skin are starting to peel up. I keep my G1 in my pocket, so putting it in and out causes the edges of the skin to curl.

The case from Tmobile looks nice compared to the cheaper ones on Ebay. I like the fact the front button (Home,Back,Call,End) are open, since Ive had trouble with previous phones were the case covers the buttons. The recessed hole is hard to press the buttons. I would think it’s the same with the G1, anyone have one?

For those that have this case, how is it holding up for you? Since this thread is 3 months old, im hoping to get some extended use reviews.

Thanks.

EDIT:
Im also thinking about this case, which is soft plastic and flexible. Anyone own one of these?

The phone is just bare naked. I keep the phone in my belt holster at all times so no scratches from coins or keys in the pocket. Plus I'm just really gentle with the device. I'm actually suprised I've kept this phone this clean and mint condition as I go through about 3-5 phones in just one year and I've had this phone since Oct.

Heads up. Tmobile stores have a sale right now on some G1 accessories. I picked up this clear case for $7.99. Pretty good deal compared to waiting for one from Ebay.

The case fits pretty snug. I have a BSE skin on my phone already, so I actually had to remove some pieces of it to get the case to fit correctly. The main part the skin has to protect is the screen, so it worked out just great.
