I was wondering if anyone knew which is the best case / cover or Holster for the G1 black...
I've read many threads but they dont sound too convincing...was wondering if anyone had any ideas about a possible skin w/ grip?

I'm waiting until 11/27 for the one that's advertised in the G1 box.

There are a whole bunch of different cases, skins, pouches etc. At the moment I am still using the original pouch but Im looking for a rubberised black cover that will protect my baby without getting in the way of me using it.

I am using the conventional HTC you buy at bestbuy. I bought it yesterday for 31.00.. I believe it is overpriced on a scale from 1-10 i would give it a 6.. no one will tell you whats the best one ... but they will tell you which one not to buy... because of how new the phone is.. I think ill buy the one havoc is talking about too with the little stand..oh and the HTC has magnets.. which is "rumored" to mess up the G1... not proven but "rumored" just my 2 cents

It's not rumored and it has been proven. The only thing we are not sure of is if the magnets cause permanent damage. If you put your case close to your phone while in the compass app or street view you will see even though you are the phone are not moving, the app will spin like crazy. Its common knowledge that magnets throw off compasses, we are just not sure if throws it off permanently.
I have a cheap case with 2 strong magnets in it, if i use the compass or street view without tapping the chin of the G1 or shaking it like crazy, i can only move street view up and down. In the compass it will only spin halfway around then it goes in reverse. But if i tap the chin while holding the phone face down, it fixes the issue and the compass seems to work fine.
One thing you can try when buying a case is to bring a small screw or paper clip with you. Open the case and try to see if the magnet holds the paper clip/screw in place inside the case. If it doesn't then the magnets are shielded from the inside, i am not sure if this is best or if it makes a difference seeing that tapping the phone's chin seems to fix the issue. But at least then you won't have to tap the phone every few weeks when your using compass mode!

therefore its not proven... with substantial evidence....
Now it is proven that the compass mode goes crazy while magnets are close...read before you talk...
The magnet damage can be fix by a hard reset and as by the casing matter I think the best case is the velcro case that tmobile has for the sk I think that's the best case for the g1

Its not a rumor but a fact. I had to do a hard reset and now it works. I also read here that if you place face down while on compass mode and tap the back where the chin is then it recalibrates it or something like that. It works perfect now but I am back to the included pouch.

it is a rumor... let me explain again...
it is a fact or proven that it goes crazy in compass mode while close to magnets... but it is not a fact or proven that it messes up your G1 permanently .. Look people im just trying to make this forum more creditable ... because when i get on this forum there is alot of junk lies and rumors... im just trying to make it clear for everyone... im not trying to argue...read and understand before you post...

I bought this rubberized cover and screen saver off ebay at a decent price. The quality and fit was surprisingly good.

how much bulk did it add to your phone?
I'm not ready to go back to carrying a brick around (like my MDA)

I'd say about 2mm. I don't like cases and holdsters and prefer to keep the phone in my pocket and the extra size didn't make much of a difference. The cover also seems to make the phone feel more solid IMO.
And for $7.95, I figured if it sucks...then oh well.
