We all know that apple isn't going to have their software running on any other device except theirs. My question is it possible for someone to hack the software and for instance have it run on a htc device. I've seen it done with leopard on a PC. Can it be done in a sense with mobile phones also ?

yes and no.

People have been porting (been trying to...) android to a kaiser (HTC device). android has been reportedly ported to the open moko phones.

But, your analogy of leopard to PC is somewhat incorrect. It's like asking to port a PC game to a Console System. Console Games are developed specificly for the system. PC games are developed to run on a whole plethora of different components.

This analogy also applied to phones. Phones are very specific and the software and hardware are written specificly for them. Porting an iPhone to a non-iPhone would seem, to me, impossible. The hardware is just so different.

Fare, that's why I asked if it was possible bro. I just figured software was software. Of course I know it takes specific hardware to compliment the software. All I wanted to know if it was possible. So there's no correct or incorrect to my "Question".

Basically what would have to happen is that the iPhone source code would have to be compiled for the target hardware (say a G1). If you can get your hands on the source code and fix all of the compile errors that will occur (because the hardware is different), then yes, you could port the iPhone OS to another phone.

Thank You. Some people just don't know how to answer questions without being such critics.
