I heard that u can view your contacts in gmail but I don't see them. Why? Also since we can't save our contacts on a sim , If we were to switch to a new phone how would we get r numbers since they can't be saved on the I bc of the g1? I guess google wants us to stick with the g1 Thats why we can save them on our sim . Thanks

I suppose you are talking about gmail, on the phone... not your PC...

If so, you cant "see" your contacts in gmail. You just start typing a contacts name and a drop-down list comes up and you can choose from that.

And about the whole NO SIM CONTACTS thing... I could care less. I haven't put contacts on my SIM card since... well... since I got my first phone that could save them to itself isntead of the SIM.

I absolutely HATE SIM contacts. You can't have 1 name with multiple contact info - like email, phone2, address, etc. You can only have 1 name + 1 number. I've just always found extraneous ways of getting contacts swapped without a SIM.

no I'm talking about gmail on pc, iPod touch, etc . I also just sync my contacts on my g1 but nothing seem to work. Also if I get my phone replace how would I get my contacts since I can't see it on my gmail account? Also if u hate sim contacts then how do u view your numbers on your phone?

You should be able to see them on your PC... make sure your settings are correct and you are actually syncing your contacts.

Huh? What does me hating SIM contacts have anything to do with viewing numbers on my phone?

I went to data syncronization then I checked contacts next I checked auto/sync . Then a little thing up top starts spinning(I guess that means syncing in process ) . But I still don't see it on my pc.

Do you have contacts with email addresses on your phone? (Not stored on your SIM)

You don't. I was just wondering if you did. Trying to troubleshoot.

But are your contacts stored on your phone? or on your SIM?

Also - and I don't mean to sound like I'm calling you dumb... But do you know how to use Gmail? Are you sure you're looking at the right place to see your contacts? I only ask because my wife, for the life of her, couldn't figure out where here contacts were in Gmail... She's admittedly not the most technologically advanced user though...

I thought the contacts r automaticly stored on your g1 once u import not on your sim?Not really I never used gmail before the g1 but I see contacts and went to it but I don't see any of mine.

Ok... You said that contacts on your phone aren't showing up in gmail... but you are asking if contacts in gmail are synced to your phone...

I'm not sure what the problem is.

If you add a contact, either on your phone, or in gmail, it should, within a few minutes, sync to the other location.

To clarify:
-- Any contact you have setup in gmail will sync to your phone and be stored on the phone, not SIM.
-- Any contact stored on your phone (not SIM) will sync to your gmail.
-- Contacts stored to your SIM will not sync to gmail. (I think).

Try adding a test contact to your gmail account. Just to be sure, make sure you give it an email addres and a phone number (just make one up - it shouldn't matter). Give it a few minutes (or hours... not sure how often the phone syncs), and see if that contact shows up on your phone.

I'm sorry for all the confusion... I'm seriously trying to help, even if it doesn't seem like it lol.

I seem to have this same issue.
I imported my contacts from a blackberry via outlook -> csv, and many of the names didn't propagate to gmail/g1. I fixed the names on gmail. These didn't propagate to the g1. Additionally there are numbers (without names) in the g1 that don't seem to exist in gmail.
I waited an hour for the sync to propagate, then rebooted the phone, then unchecked and rechecked all the sync settings, and it synced again, but didn't change anything. I waited approximately 24 hours, and this had no effect.
Then today I hard wiped the phone (booted while holding home, alt-l then alt-w then reboot) and re-synced the contacts.
The numbers that have no names pulled back down!!! But still don't exist in gmail!
So I created a group "g1 contacts" then added a bunch of contacts to it. I unchecked "sync all" and checked "sync g1 contacts".
The phone synced for approx 10 min.
afterwards I STILL HAD NAMELESS NUMBERS THAT DON'T EXIST IN GMAIL.
OMG WTF!?!
so frustrating.
