You can't save your contacts to the SIM card, at least not right now. Your contacts are synced with Google Contacts for backup purposes.

As for your G1 erasing all your contacts upon connection to a computer, I have never heard anyone else experiencing the same problem. Could you provide us with more details on that? I'm sure Google would be very interested to hear about this bug.

sorry for diverting the thread, but could you guys use question marks in thread titles that ask questions? as a member of many established forums, believe me when i say it makes searching for answers WAY easier later on when the site matures..

thanks standrioid about the gmail contacts. so back to my phone erasing all my contacts. i think it has something to do with,me plugging in the phone in the USB port and the say's do u wanna safely remove your hardware. sometimes i just snatch it out, with out properly removing the hardware. this has happen to me three days in the row now. i know the obvious would be "to safely remove hardware" however i dont think it should erase all your numbers you know.. and feed back??:confused::rolleyes::cool:

ps.. i see all my contacts in my Gmail account... how do you transfer it back to the phone??

That shouldn't cause all your contacts to be erased. I do that all the time because it is just easier to unplug the phone. I never experienced the same problem.

I am not sure if not removing it properly would be causing this issue everytime, removing hardware without stopping it can cause problems when files are be written to in the middle of the disconnect. You should be careful if it is writing to something on your SD card when you unplug it, you could corrupt your card and have to format. Which then you would lose anything on the card. Hopefully everything is backed up, but you got to spend the time moving the files back. I think the 2 clicks and the added 1-2 seconds is worth the time!

It should sync them automatically, if not go into your contacts hit Menu and display group. Try using the different settings in there. You can also import all your contacts from your sim card.

Edit: also try going into Settings, Data sync and make sure Contacts is checked. If it is then Uncheck it and Check it again.

I see under data synchronization there is gmail, calender and contacts . Why do we need to sync them? And to what do we sync it to? The computer? I haven't connected my g1 to my computer yet. What does it do? Thanks

No those sync OTA with your google account. There is no need to connect the phone to the computer unless you want to transfer files to the SD Card. It would be faster to write the files with a memory card reader though.

No Problem, but do me a favor and connect your phone to your computer and unplug it the proper way. See if your contacts disappear then, If not trying doing the way you normally do and see if they disappear.

You said they have disappeared a few times right?

O so I should keep the contacts on so they will be sync then . But what does connecting it to the computer do?

No the only reason right now to connect your phone to the Computer is to either copy files (Pictures,MP3s,Videos...etc) to or from the phone and to charge it. As of right now there is not any kind of Desktop sync.

The Gmail mailbox, Calendar and contacts are all downloaded on the phone when you sync. Also anything created on the phone for those services will be copied to your computer.

Okay so I wiped my phone so of course it erased all my contacts.

When rebooted the system only my sim card contacts showed up not the rest.

You said the google automatically syncs our contacts right?

Well google never did that for me so I lost at least 50 + contacts.
And i want to know why.

Is there a way to see what numbers are on the SIM card? The app says 10 numbers will be erased, I don't know what they are but would like to see them first. This app fills a need, I bought a cheap prepaid phone in case mine ever dies on me.

Doesn't look like there are any options. Mine said erasing 28 numbers, but it added all the numbers on my google contact list. I think those deleted are the numbers I had saved to my sim on an old phone.

you could try importing contacts from sim first? i can't remember where that is in the settings it's been so long since i did it... but it might show you what the numbers are... although it probably will show all your contacts

so it would be all gmail contacts
- sim card contacts
= the ten left over....

Found it! It's under contacts >import. It was useless stuff like minutes used that you can look up with a smart phone anyway.

contacts > Menu > Import

It should show you what you have in your sim card.

I need help please! I saved all my contacts on my SIM card from my blackberry and then put my SIM card in my G1. I went to contacts hit the menu key, hit import contacts, hit the menu key, hit import all, and then all my numbers showed up in my contact list... WELL then they just start disappearing on me slowly 1 by 1!!!! And after like 3 minutes the only contacts I have left in my phone are my fave 5... How do I stop them from erasing after I import them?

Thanks for the help!
