View Full Version : AIM issue

I get IM's but the sender is listed as me! I can't see who sent me a message and this is a huge problem because of my 100+ up to date AIM list. I can have up to 60 people logged in at once and guessing who sent me an IM doesn't work for me very well.

I know I've heard that other people have had this same issue, but has anyone worked it out? Did you need to get a new phone? Is it going to be addressed in the update?

Advise please. There's no easy-to-use alternate application so I'm stuck using the default mail client.

I believe this was addressed before and the solution one individual came up was to log in without spaces in your screen name.

I'm going to try that one, will update to let you know if it works.

UPDATE: Didn't work. Anyone else?

AIM SUCKS PERIOD ! everytime i IM someone i get a text from myself with their reply, so i look at active chats and theres two IM boxes, one from me and one from the the person that i IMed. Connectivity issues suck ! SLOW TO LOAD ! &i still don't understand why i get an IM from myself with the person's reply.

Exactly, that's the same issue I'm having and it seems like we're the only two with this problem.

Bumping for justice.

So, another bump. Can anyone be of service yet?

I already returned to my TMobile store and apparently they are out of G1's. Glad I got mine early.

I haven't called tech support yet, but they're usually just a bunch of morons who keep telling me to restart my phone or flat out refuse to help me. I can't even begin to tell you how bad the customer service at TMobile is and how much free bull**** they've given me because of it.

You need to uncheck automatically sign in and save password.
that fixed it for me.

I'm going to attempt to do this right now. Will update with results.

(P.S. If in fact it does work, that'd be pretty ridiculous. Save password and automatically log-in are two pretty important features. It's not as if I'm simply just logging in with a space in my screen name or anything, I mean, in that case I may as well just use Mooble, or whatever it's called.)

UPDATE: So yeah, that didn't work either. Any other suggestions?

I had that problem at first, but I reset my phone to the factory settings, entered my screen name with all lowercase letters and now it works fine, except for the logging me out after a while. I hope that may help you.

I'm wondering how many people are actually understanding what my problem really is. A lot of you are suggesting you know exactly what I'm talking about, yet none of the solutions that supposedly worked for you are working for me.

I shall clarify:

When I receive a message from someone, it says I sent it to myself. For example:

Divest (not me): Hey, what's up?
(Me) Divest: I'm not sure who sent me this message!

Get it?

I REALLY don't want to have to reset all the settings to factory settings, I'd much rather just wait for a replacement. If anyone knows exactly what I'm talking about and has a solution that doesn't involve me resetting my whole goddamned phone the please, please, please let me know!

I understood what you were saying. I had the exact same problem. I told you what I did to rectify the problem. If you don't want to reset the phone, then I don't think there is a solution for you at the moment.

yeah i understand your problem. it's happening to a lot of us.

Not much that we can do though =/

HOw do you reset the phone?

Has that worked for most?

I just know it worked for me.
1. Turn off the phone.
2. Hold down the home button while turning it back on. You will then get a pic of an exclamation point and the phone.
3. Press Alt+L. Some commands should then show on the screen.
4. I believe it's Alt+W to reset to factory settings (this won't reset your software build. eg, if you were on RC30 it will still be RC30).

When setting up my AIM and MSN accounts, I put my username in all lowercase without spaces (my screen name doesn't have spaces, but I hear that may be a part of the problem).

Hope that helps.

Seems like someone over at google forgot about sending things to a toLower function so basically the aim program seems to not grasp the fact that "screenname" is actually the same as "ScReenname" or "Screen Name" or "screen name" etc, even though the regular aim protocol permits this. Basically you need to enter your screen name without spaces and all lower case.

Haha, this is great.

Android User, you are nothing short of a god amongst men. Thank you, thank you, thank you! *KISS*

And the rest of you, Pablo Senior whateverthe****, you fail, miserably. Did you even attempt to enter in lower-case before epic phone reset occurred?

That's like raising your engine out of your car for the sole purpose of performing an oil change.
