I had an unlocked Blackjack 2 on t-mobile, and loved the way Google Maps worked on it, when centered on my location, it kept me centered on the screen, making it easy to track where I am and where upcoming turns are. Haven't seen this ability on the G1, is there a setting that you can change to get this working this way? It gets a bit confusing keeping track of where you are and where you have to turn.

no, sadly, one of the many, many features missing from the maps app. Here: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f9/i-just-trashed-the-google-maps-team-on-their-blog-6010/ read that for more info and a place to post about it.

Strange when I have my location set on maps my location is centered on the map even as I move location. I have tested it out driving my car around and my GPS location dot is ALWAYS centered...

I couldnt get mine to keep centered either, so i checked out Andnav and its a pretty good navigation app for such an early release, it always keeps the map centered on your location and even has a compass mode
