View Full Version : Thinking about going bareback

I've always put screen protectors on my devices. Last phone was a BB Curve that I put a protector on since day one. I'm most anal about the screen.
But I'm really worried about the reviews in the shield threads. I don't want to lose any sort of response from the screen, so I'm thinking about going without.
Right now I still have the thin piece of plastic that shipped attached to the display. Surprisingly I can use that and still get a decent response from the screen.
Thoughts? Anyone else doing the same?

I just made that decision today...the screen feels so much better now that its naked :-)

Yea I still have the OG screen protector on too. On my BB 8800 I had a screen protectors on for a year, I ran out and scratched my screen in 1 day.
I think there are better screen savers like the one it came with that should work fine with the touch screen.
Now If I could just get my email working...

I haven't used my G1 WITHOUT a screen protector, so I can't really "compare"
But I can say that with my invisibleSHIELD installed, I haven't had a single problem with responsiveness, and I've never thought "The screen doesn't seem responsive enough".
That isn't to say it doesn't work BETTER, WITHOUT a screen protector... just that I haven't had any problems WITH it.

Naked is great...and I will stay that way until i find a screen protector with a matte finish cuz oil and fingerprints drive me up the wall, I am constantly wiping my screen.

I took the screen protector off a week ago and its held up great! No scratches at all, its more responsive, and feels better. Not like the curve, which developed fine scratches just from wiping it off!

rereTHEEbeast - please come back when you finish grade school, or learned how to use the English language properly.

I was just thinking the same thing there. Good grief. It's not like you even save key-presses by typing "yew" instead of "you".

i do that with all my phones, just dedicate a pocket to your phone and you'll be fine... as far as you losing touch capability, just get a quality screen that was made specificly for phones that utilize conductive touch screens
and oh btw
thats what she said

i just put on my $2 ebay screen protector and it's fine... just as responsive..
the only difference at all is that it's texture is a little "grippier" than the bare screen.. so it has a different feel. it's not bad, just different.
the thing i like about it is it doesnt pick up fingerprints, so i wont be obsessively wiping the screen off every 2 seconds anymore

I've gone bareback since day 1 (and I bought it on launch day).
I am pretty brutal on phones, I toss it on the table, I put it in my pocket with loose change.
Surprisingly, not a single scratch on the screen. I think having that little lip thing actually helps tons preventing it from getting scratched when face down, but whatever this plastic is, it's really resillient to scratches.
Bareback is the way to go! Very responsive, and no scratches. I don't think there is anything to fear.

I went about two weeks without a screen protector, but I have had my invisible shield on since then. I did not notice any decrease in sensitivity. Where did you read a report about decreases in sensitivity? I don't remember reading any here.

I found the naked screen had too much friction. I highly recommend the screen protectors for Smartphone Experts (sold on the Android store here.) Can't speak for the other brands.

Link?
I was using the one it came with from TMO and was happy with it. Got my 2nd G1 and it was off center so I took it off and haven't scratched it yet luckily

its a glass screen, its pretty hard to scratch and if something that can scratch it does its likely to crack it as well, and a screen protector will mostlikely not save it from this fate, I mean it can but dont be suprised if you have a protector on it and something hard hits it and it cracks even though you had a protector on it
i have been using mine naked from day 1 now almost a month later i have yet to get one scratch on the screen and i normaly have it in my pocket unprotected (no case) i do make sure that i dont put my keys in that pocket and keep the screen side twords my leg for safety ofc :)

been bareback since 10.20. no scratches or scuffs anywhere on the phone. still in mint condition. i clean it with rubbing alcohol daily and it gives that out-of-the-box feel! and yes its safe to do, just put a lil on a paper towel and wipe on the screen and everywhere. makes a huge difference to the feel of the phone. my bro does the same.
