This phone is pretty new and I have read several issues reguarding the G1.
So how many G1 owners have regretted buying this phone?
Ugh, 1 more thread. Send it to me!

I will say I don't regret buying the g1 at all. I love the phone and I seem to like it more and more everyday. The only thing that I don't like is the battery life and I'm having trouble with the 3g in my areea and tmobile doesn't know how to fix it it seems or something. But the battery life I mean I jus make sure its vharged and have a car charger. And for 3g that's on tmobile but its pissin me off cuz I'm paying for a data service that ain't workin. But I still love the g1 heh.

The only issue I currently have w/ the phone is the inability to dl apps directly to the memory card. Hopefully this is something that will get fixed quickly.
Half and half at the moment.
Whilst I do love it; I think it gave in to more my wants than needs when buying it.
Its true brilliance will shine through once paid apps start coming onto the market though.. I hope.
nope, not yet...
Then again I'm not tied to AIM, don't need a battery that lasts forever, or other things people have grown accustomed to.

I'm not understanding what there is to regret...? Like every other phone, you have 14 days to decide you like it and send/bring it back. If you exercise that option, there should be nothing else to discuss - hopefully you're happy... right??
Nope, I don't at all regret it. Sure it has its downsides but what phone doesn't? I'm also a Linux freak so this being the first Linux based handset with mass appeal and usability for that matter, I just had to pick it up. It's been out for a little over a week now and look at all the brilliant applications already in the market. I look forward to the future of Android, and I'll be there for the ride.

The only thing I regret is that I got a dud. Now I'm waiting for my replacement. It's killing me, because I've already had it in hand for a full day before it went belly up. Now I have to wait all over again (who knows when it's going to ship)!!!

I can totally understand how some people would regret it because of some things that are lacking here and there. But to rock an android OS phone in the begining, at its launch like we are. This means you must be patient and experiance how this phone develops into a force that can RULE the world.
I read an article about some dude who bought a G1 AND AFTER 4 days of messing wit email set up so he returned it because he couldn't be patient. 3 days later a free app comes out that does this wonderfully for free and that guy knocked himself out with his blackberry curve...
The moral of the story is be patient good things will come, as for now the phone is off the meat rack

I only regret that Google screwed up Maps big time with the G1. Other than that? I love my G1. I'm sure Maps will be fixed soon, so yeah, no regrets whatsoever.

Regrets? No way! The hardware gets the job done and Android rocks. I think Android has by far the most potential of any mobile platform. I've never been much of an early adopter, but I'm really glad I am in this case. I'm really enjoying it now, and it can only get better, right?

I dont regret it at all its got way more pluses than minuses - and this is the first release. it will only get better as more really useful apps come online and the os adds features.
BUT i do find myself scared to use it - worryed i will drain the battery.
so for me its win win win for the software - and FAIL for the hardware
unless the battery can hold out a full day on my normal - lite to medium usage
its going back before the 14 days are up.

Agree, but.....you dont pay a lot for a phone that "could" become great? May be you are rich, but not everyone eats with silver spoon. Google and T mobile should have made sure that some of the basic things works rather banging on its barcode reader.

It's in this respect that the G1 is exactly like the iPhone. Buying into Android, at this time, all about having faith. Much like the iPhone, Android is not going to 'become' great. The hardware and software is there - what the enthusiasts are waiting for is for the potential to be realised. The iPhone has huge potential to be the 'everything' device that the marketplace is looking for, but, and here is where Google could very well screw up as well, the iPhone ethos is getting in the way. Online office apps, from my perspective, can go relieve themselves up a rope; but Apple (and most likely Google also) appear to have the mindset that if you buy their product, you buy their mantra as well.
I don't have a G1 to regret buying it, but I do know that in a lot of instances regarding smartphones, there are a lot of people purchasing them that really don't need the facilities, and cannot see the point of having them either. Smartphones have capabilities that a lot of users are not even touching. Let's face it, if you only want email, you're better off with a Blackberry. If you want something powerful that will expand (without costing the earth), then Android is your best bet right now.

I don't regret it at all (it was free anyway) but had I shelled out the money for it, I wouldn't regret doing so.
This is a brand new platform, and sometimes people forget how expensive the iPhone was when it was released: $499 4gb or $599 8gb.
I'm definitely going to stick with Android for a few years. The next generation of Android phones will probably fix the two big shortcomings of the G1, browser speed (html rendering) and the low built-in memory.
Also, I don't quite get all the battery complaints. This isn't a cheapo Nokia phone, and if you play with the thing all the time, the battery will drain.

No REAL regrets. I love the phone, I upgraded from a Dash and so, it's a big improvement....
BUT:
1. They could have stuck at the very least, 1 gig of onboard storage into the thing. An 8gb Flash drive is $40. It wouldn't have killed HTC to build more onboard storage in.
I'm not complaining, as I got the phone for the pre-order price...but I can't imagine someone paying $400 for it AND signing a 2 year contract. As it is, the phone comes with 256mb of ROM which believe me, is nothing. Especially when you really load it up with Apps. A few weeks into mine and I have 45mb of storage left . The fact that you can't run or download Apps to the SD is what REALLY got to me, since I didn't know this before buying it. Essentially, when you're out of internet storage, you're screwed.
2. Choppy, choppy, choppy. Because of the amount of Ram they chose to stick in there (and I guess in some part, type of processor), the phone gets REALLY laggy and choppy the more apps you run. I don't WANT to compare it to the iphone, but I kind of have to....and well, the iphone is lag free - period. And this is a mere comparison for price vs. value...I don't like the iphone at all - I appreciate the full qwerty keyboard and trackball on the G1 very much - but in terms of speed, it COULD be snappier.
I suppose this ties in with storage space. If they DID build in gigs of onboard storage, the phone may slow to a crawl. So, my question is - WHY? Why not put like 512mb of RAM and a Gig or two of flash storage? Especially if the planned selling point is $400 retail.
So, yeap - those are my only 2 gripes. But I don't have any regrets, as I maintain that the phone is better than my Dash (and I LOVE[D] my Dash), AND I got it for $180, which I think is wellllll worth it. I can't wait for the next generation.

I've sent it back a few hours ago....a bit half hearted about it. I'll sit and wait to see how people react to it when more and more people use it instead of listening to bias Tmobile people shoving it into my throat again.
It would be interesting when X1 is available here and see how G1 cope

Pointless thread if everyone says they don't regret it buying it... all you wanted to do was ask a question that ended up getting shut down

I would regret if I didn't get the G1.
Because I would have to live with the Dash that I have to soft reset every other day, stuck with the.... EDGE, and get the SIM error every other week.

i wish AIM work'd
I returned mine...well actually, I'm getting it replaced. It was a bit too creaky for me. And I agree with the guy who said it needs more onboard memory. I had to actually uninstall a bunch of apps cuz my phone was complaining that there wasn't much space left.

For the first week I was pissed. However, I have had a sidekick ever since sidekick 1. So it wasn't more of the phone really sucked but more of I needed to get used to the way this phone was. After it all even thought there are some problems with the phone still I am glad I made the switch.
