I agree this is the first google phone and they are comparing it with the second generation Iphone which i think is unfair. I wondering if the compared it with the first generation Iphone how would the outcome be. G1 one would get better and i bet right after the 90 day of free apps. I like my G1

I concur. Whatever they review, the G1 is one peg down from the iphone in comparison, its just complete bias.

But you want to compare it to the most current version of the iPhone or other smart phones. Some people want the latest and greatest. Yes, Android is new and the G1 is just getting started but why should it be compared to the 1st Gen iPhone? The current gen iPhone is the direct competitor of the G1 and any Android phone, not 1st Gen. The point being, the 1st Gen iPhone had its problems and yet Apple has fixed them (most of them). Most people believe that the G1/Android is lacking things that the iPhone already fixed, meaning that Android is just a little late to the game.

I totally agree. Otherwise, we can create anything and call it the greatest ever comparing to what cavemen had. The G1 launched after the iPhone 3G. So it's only fair to at least compare it to the iPhone 3G. Apple went through great pains to fix its iPhone. The G1 should not have similar problems. Google should have learned from Apple's experience, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel all the time. Revisiting a common practice once in a while is a good thing, but without moderation, modern society will be at a stand still.

I am a big CNET fan but I have to agree, they did not give a very fair breakdown.

Now, to play devil's advocate - the reason why it is being compared with the Iphone 3G is because the 3G is the latest model and was released BEFORE the G1 meaning the G1 could rip off ideas, features and tweak their model to make up for the shortfalls of the 3G - in some cases the G1 did just that (open app market for instance).

However - outside of the battery (which is a legit gripe) I feel most other things are "nit-picking" it doesnt have a 3.5mm headphone jack...ok...that doesnt affect me even one iota. The say the phone isnt "sexy enough"...again...ok...in YOUR opinion it isnt sexy enough, I think the thing looks cool with a kinda future/retro feel to it.

I have owned a NUMBER of devices: Iphone, Sidekick LX, multiple blackberry's and a Moto Q. I dont think any of them deserve a higher rating then the G1.

They are just being Fair they point out good things about the phone as well as bad things. Besides its only their opinion it still got a good rating star wise i think

Are you kidding? CNET hates everything that isn't Apple... a.k.a. everything that isn't willing to pay them behind the scenes to inflate their ratings.

the article seemed very nit-picky... for example, "the G1's curve isn't pocket-friendly" .. LOL... get the f**k out of here... did they really print that?

Cnet is a big supporter of apple. Check out their reviews for apple products, then you will agree with me.

Heh, the fact that it's CNET should tip you off. They're a good site for general research, but I never trust any opinions I read over there.

Im mean its a bit fair. Obviously the G1 lose to iphone in "sexiness" and "web browsing and multimedia." Perhaps what was not fair was the call quality and navigation. As far as features go, android is still in its early stage, they it offer just as much as the iphone.

Didn't CNET post the speedtest results via video?

If they really hated the phone, why would they post that video?

I don't really go by reviewers any more. They are almost as bad as movie critics.

Bonnie Cha and Nicole Lee are both unqualified to review any phone IMHO. Their tech knowledge is too limited. Watching their cnet video reviews is painful.
