i just saw an invisibleshield on an iphone and the orange peel thing seemed to bother me quite a bit. If you're looking into getting an invisible skin, you may want to look into the bodyguardz brand. Theres a few pics posted throughout the forums and some nice ones here http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f46/body-guardz-installed-pics-5439/ (good work marksf). This skin seems to have the best finish.
Another company makes this crappy hard plastic shell that snaps onto the phone. Its the one that has a heart on the back (yes i know its for the camera and speaker but its still a damn heart) and since its made of hard plastic it will protect against scratches like a skin but it most likely wont do anything in terms of hard impacts.

I would go with a skin from BestSkinsEver or similar; it is very thin and covers the entire device (so not even the back will get scratched). I also find the skins give the device a little more 'grip' so it is less likely to slip out of my hand.

The skins are very similar to the 'free screen protector' from T-mobile- but they don't show scratches anywhere near as much!

I am waiting on my skin from bestskins; when it arrives I will post some before/after pics...

Another thing to consider; if you look at a case protector, make sure you get one that isn't made entirely of aluminum! (like RhinoSkins) An all metal case pretty much acts as a shiled for wireless signals- for Cellular, WiFi and BlueTooth. They usually work, but the range is greatly reduced...

I had a roommate that went through 3 BlackBerry Pearls with AT&T as they kept dropping calls; as she was about to return the 4th one I told her to try it for a few days without the black aluminum case (from eBay)- no problems since....
