Like many of us... we have the first Android OS phone... We have read through countless blogs... threads and watched several Youtube videos... By reading alot about what people say here in the community... I've realized that many of us are not the bandwagon type... but the Tech savy group of individuals that like being on the cutting edge and emergence of new devices...
Before I chose to get a G1... I did a lot of research with high hopes and admiration for Googles new OS... I had some ideas of how I wanted to use my phone... and I am eager to get the necessary applications I intended on using... but what about you...
How do you use your Android? What do want to be able to do with your Android? What were you expecting to be able to do on your Android?

I wanted to search the web from my phone easily... just like as if I was my home computer... I didn't want to shell out $150-300 for a GPS device... but knew I needed one... I was so lucky to find out it had an integrated GPS system... I always preferred to use my camera phone than my Digital Camera only because it was much more convenient than have many devices in my pocket... but I had to trade off for lower megapixel... I was releived to find this one came with a 3.2 MP it's decent.. not great... I like the fact I can use my wireless connection.. especially Since I don't have 3G in my area yet... Everyday I see better apps come out of the wood work and I'm glad they are free...
There was two things I wanted to do more than anything else on my phone... especially since the OS was made by google.... To be able to download widgets similar to those I use on my Google desktop... and run them on my Android desktop... the clock is nice.. and so is the picture frame... but where is my other Widgets? The little things that separate a regular PC and Google PC... For example...
I wanted to have a picture frame that would slideshow a album of photos automatically... like the one on my PC...
I wanted to have a Notepad that looked like a spiral notepad right on my Android desktop... that I could see without having to touch my finger on to enable...
I wanted to have a on screen calendar widget that just by glancing at the screen I knew what my appointments were...
Ya.. maybe I'm lazy... but I liked having those widgets... It gave me the ability to give my PC Desktop my personal touch...
The other thing I wanted to do was use the Google Docs right from my phone... Since I have a full qwerty I figured this would be a great opportunity to utilize this feature... I previously had a samsung PDA phone that had windows CE... I could access a Microsoft word program on my phone and with the use of a Qwerty keyboard or fold out keyboard... I could type out documents through my phone on the spot...
With Google's cloud computing era... I was hoping to be able to save Google Documents I typed through my Android to my Google Docs account... therefore I wouldn't have to lug around my PC and I don't need any other device but a portal to the internet and a keyboard to type with....
But unfortunately it's not possible... yet... I really like that the Marketplace can give me that hope... it really takes things to the next level... but...
Are your feelings similar to mine? What were your expectations and realizations you have come across since you have been using the Android?

I've got pretty much the same needs from the phone as you do. Before, I always said I've gotta google this when I get home, or I'd try to do it on my Dash, but it was just too damn slow and crude. I find myself using my laptop less and less as I familiarize myself with the G1. My laptop is probably very jealous of my G1 and my desktop now, as they get all of my attention. Mapping is also very important to me, so if I'm not going on a long trip or I need traffic info, I won't need to use my regular GPS. I love that I can search for a store, map it and call it all on one device.
Once Sling Media makes a sling player app, I'll be happier with the G1 than I already am.
