We were at a club on Halloween and we were heading to the front of the line to cut it. That's when the worst happened =(. I was checking myself to make sure I had my phone with me and I had accidentally dropped the phone from about 5 feet in the air straight to the hard tiled floor. The phone hit the ground and the battery cover immediately came off from the phone due to the impact. I picked up the phone and cover and tried to turn it on but it wouldn't. I then realized that the battery came out of the phone and was laying on the ground. (The case wasn't around the phone at the time it fell to the ground)

I was able to make and receive phone calls and there seemed to be no problems with the phone. Later that night when I got home and I was able to inspect the phone more carefully, it appeared that there was no scratches or smudges on the phone and it looked brand new still. When I had opened the cover, the battery seemed to be slightly loose and would come out a bit at the end where there were no contacts. However, during the following day, my reception wasn't available for about 30 mins and it seemed to be that I would only be able to get Edge coverage as opposed to 3G coverage which I always get (NY).

I don't think there's anything wrong with the phone but I'm very paranoid that something might've messed up during the fall. I think I'm going to return my phone under consumer's remorse and pick up another G1 at the store.

ouch, sorry to hear it, i almost dropped mine coming out of the store, had a bag in one hand and the phone in the other trying to open the door, if it weren't for my g/f I'd be one pissed off dude right about now.

While waiting in line at T Mobile on Weds., launch day, I asked a saleswoman who was holding a G1 if they were sturdy.

She said, yeah, I think so... then proceeded to DROP her G1, face down, on the floor!

She picked it up, and handed it to me. Not a scratch!

(Do not try this at home.....)

Pretty impressive!

I've dropped my twice on concrete services from at least 4 ft on accident. It's been fine. My 3 iphones usually didn't fair as well.

That's no good. Though at least T-mobile will replace it!
Although, the phone itself is heavy and not so sleek. If it wasn't for Android, I would be disappointed with the G1.

Just once.

Did the amazing "Oh ****, oh ****, oh ****" juggling routine trying to catch it before it hit the ground.

Didn't succeed, but I did manage to slow the fall so that it only dropped two feet.

No damage or loss of function.

i did. a few nights ago, i was getting out of my car with some buddies going to a party. on the way there, i took it out of my pocket to text. then i put it on my lap cause i was driving. then wen i was getting out of the car, i just go out, and it flew out INTO THE STREET! landed face down. small chip on the top left above the screen, some scratches on the bottom of the chin, but thats it. the chin prevented the screen from being damaged.

i need a case to cover it now so i dont notice it as much and so it doesnt get more damaged.

Lol oh, I had no idea the 3g coverage was down in NY. Damn my paranoid thinking lol. I just got the invisible shield and put the screen on but I was't able to get the full body coverage on correctly. I tried my best but it was a bit difficult with the weird cut out pieces for the bends. I guess I'll just have to get a better case. Any suggestions?

did you order invisibleshield from zagg or were you able to find it at a store in the city?

I ordered it from Zagg but it was preordered. If you're going to get it, I don't recommend the full body case unless you're good at doing that kinda stuff. I had a lot of difficulty with the bends ad the small pieces and just put only the screen protector on.

Mine was sitting on the arm of my couch and I bumped it. It fell on the carpet and the upper left corner of the screen cracked! It fell on the carpet!! There are no chips or signs of impact damage so it looks like a stress crack. I do have insurace on the phone but wonder if it was maybe a defective screen since it cracked on the carpet. Not sure what to do yet.

WOW...A carpet crack?? I think i would lose it. I came DAMN close to dropping mine yesterday. I was dosing off on the porch as i often do and my girl came out and it spooked me and when i jumped the phone nearly flew out of my hand, i quickly caught hold of it though...phew...

That lady who worked a tmobile who dropped her phone must be nuts.

i also dropped my g1 today, it slid out of my pants pocket while i was driving and i didnt know. i got up to get out of the car and it fell from the seat to the floor. now mind you i have a full body invis. shield and it was in the g1 case that came with the phone. turns out the invis shield saved it from a ding on the chin, but i slid the phone out about 5 mins later only to find the glass that is on the battery cover protecting the lens from dust cracked and spider webbed. the cam lens itself was ok. so i had to kind of clear the hole of all the glass shards so the cam wouldnt pick them up when i used it. so now its like my old curve with no cover over the lens....maybe ill pick up a new battery cover whenever they become available, but as of now i can deal with it. it just bugs me that they used like 1/32" thick glass (if that) as the cam lens cover instead of some polycarbonate and expect it to hold up to everyday use/mishaps...

I know no one has posted on this for a while now, but I just dropped my phone today. I was sitting on the toilet reading some emails and I put the phone in my shirt pocket to finish up some business and I got up real quick and the phone jumped out of my pocket and crashed on the cement floor (public restroom. I know I know). Anyways, the phone looked fine, but when I put it to sleep it turned offed and then turned back on. It was weird, but everything seems to be okay now. I got lucky and hopefully wont have any problems.

I already drop my phone quite hard on a concrete floor. It's good thing I already install a skin case for it. :)

I dropped mine on the bathroom floor WHILE I was getting my Best Skins Ever protector ready for application. TRUE STORY!

Unfortunately I did scratch and scuff up the side pretty badly with the fall too. The good thing though is after I got the protector on there, you couldn't really tell that it was messed up underneath any longer. STILL, it did suck to drop it while preparing to protect it from that very thing.

Cruel, cruel world!

Dropped mine from my lap while getting out of my car. Someone I knew was passing my so I totally forgot I had it on my lap, got out to say hi, and it fell. Got a scratch on the battery cover. The next day I received my BodyGuardz, Its not really visible anymore.

I did yesterday. I was holding the phone with the cheap sleeve that it came with and it just slipped out of the sleeve.

It only dropped about 2 feet on carpet but I almost took a s*** once I realized I dropped it.

Nothing seems wrong with the phone but I'm still a little paranoid.

I dropped mine last night... that's how I found this thread!

I'm under the 30 days so I think I'm gonna go exchange it. Only problem is, this would be my 3rd one. :(

There isn't a limit on the exchanges at tmo during the 30 days?

I've dropped it twice, once on the carpet, nothing major and that was without the plastic casing on it. Once at work from about 4 feet on to the floor! OUCH AND it was screen first. thank god the plastic thingy absorbed all the impact and nothing happened.

did it break? Im not sure they would exchange a third one under "buyers remorse". You may only be able to take it back if you can prove something is wrong with it.

I dont know but mine has held up pretty well. I had mine on the dash the other night while going down the road (dumb move I know) and when I made a slight turn it flew across the car and hit the door and landed in the floor. Great thing is all is well not even a scratch! But needless to say I'm not gonna do that again!

You are so lucky that you don't ride with the window down!

I had a friend lose a $300 pair of sunglass out the window while taking a hard left!

Yea no kiddin', just so happen it was cold and at night so the windows were up. I have had an older phone go flying out the window back a few years ago.

Last Saturday I was holding it. When I moved my arm it slipped from the case and it went face down and bouncing on the asphalt... I think my hearth stopped for a second.
The only damage was on the sides, little dents.
I guess now it's a good time to complain about my "flapping" screen.

Damn.. I was so freaking close to dropping it just now (think this thread is jinxing it).

I was putting in my new replacement battery so that I could see how well it lasts and if it has to be calibrated... when... I opened the battery cover, took out the stock battery... and almost drop my gPhone. OMG!!! luckily it stumbled in my hands and I managed to control it...

Damn that was too close.

I keep my G1 sandwiched between the sunvisor and the roof while driving. My sunvisor are the old school japanese type that have foam inside a metal frame under vinyl and thus, they cradle the G1 very well. Might bonk me in the head if I got rear ended but that would be kinda cool . . . injured by my own G1

Hm, mine sorta dropped. It was hanging by the headphone adapter so it didn't hit the carpet floor that hard, but I'm concerned about the ExtUSB port lol. It feels just fine though.
