View Full Version : Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly
So, I tried adding a bookmark to my home screen.
Now everytime I press anywhere on said screen (short/long presses & dragging) I get the error:
"android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. - Force close"
Same thing happens when I press the 'Menu' button on the home screen too.
It works fine when I select icons. I only get the error when pressing in empty space.
Any ideas how to fix it?
I've tried rebooting, to no avail.
I'm running RC7; if that helps at all.
Solved! (http://androidcommunity.com/forums/63567-post6.html)

RC7??? are you sure? Everyone I know is either running RC18 or 28 (very few b/c that update was very short lived) or 29.
Anyway, that does not sound good. Unfortunately, you did exactly what I would do. Except maybe try taking the battery out for a minute and then putting it back in.

Yeah rebooting usually helps. But that is an unusual build number

RC7 is the UK firmware version. Im sorry I havent heard about this yet as the UK version of phone has not been out for very long. Anyone else heard of this?? :(
Yup, definitely running RC7:
Build Number:
kila_uk-user 1.0 TC5-RC7 112931
I've just tried taking the battery out for a while, still no luck though.
Sorry for the double post.
Fixed!
By doing a Factory Reset (http://phandroid.com/2008/10/25/how-to-reset-your-g1-and-start-from-scratch/).
Note: This did erase all text messages, bookmarks & apps though.
Well you dont have to do all that, turn your phone off and then on again.

Hi Gary, I've just replied to your thread at another forum but I'll post my info here as I found this forum by looking for the error so I could fix mine and getting your thread in the results
could you not just delete the bookmark that caused the problem or was the icon not there to begin with? A remote shot but you could have also tried switching your wallpaper by browsing your pictures and setting one as a wallpaper. Funnily enough this reminds me of the Windows Explorer has stopped working on my mates PC when he started it. It was due to a corrupt folder thumbnail on the desktop, well actually it was a picture within the folder that caused the issue
anyway I got the same error (that's how I found the forum ) but not the doing the same thing as you. Mine was when I was playing around in my contacts. I edited my home contact online playing around with all the fields and syncronised and then I couldn't edit the contact on my phone as I got the "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. - Force close" error.
I see Andor's post above quotes a suggestion to reset the device but in my case this wasn't required as I simply edited the contact again in Gmail to remove various fields and it worked again. My problem was my IM field as I'd simply put IM as the test IM name but didn't select the client. Later on while messing around with the contact in Gmail replicating the error, it would just error when trying to sync no matter what. Even removing most of the test fields still gave an error until I deleted the test contact completely on the G1. It's strange how the contacts in Gmail don't allow you to delete things such as IM and you need to clear the name filed and set the option back to choose.... If you don't you can't edit the IM on your G1 yet it's still listed!
if anyone ever gets an error with contacts don't reset your device just yet and lose your apps etc. One thing I suggest is turning off your sync until you sort out your contact that is causing the problem. It's probably best you export them from Gmail also just in case something goes wrong
anyway one idea I had to fix it was this (although it didn't work)
on G1 remove the autosync in settings
Delete the problem contact from G1
Edit details and save the problem contact in Gmail
turn sync back on then just sync again
I then simply tried renaming the contact in Gmail so that the deleted contact on G1 wouldn't delete it but again it just deletes it. This goes both way so I guess it's all linked behind the scenes with specific contact ID's just in case people don't know and accidentally delete a contact on either the G1 or Gmail and hope that saving it again will then replace it back on the contact list it was deleted from :)
another test I did was edit both the numbers on the G1 & Gmail at the same time and after syncing it just created an extra mobile number so it kept both edited versions.
I'm only playing around now out of interest as my contacts are one thing I don't want to lose so I'm trying to break it now and then finding out how to fix it if I do ;)

I had this same problem after adding an Any Cut shortcut.
Opening Any Cut and clicking 'Edit existing shortcuts' showed that the shortcut still existed, but it wasn't visible on the home screen.
I was able to fix the problem using Better Cut. I opened Better Cut and clicked 'Edit Shortcut'. I tapped the problem shortcut, then 'Create'. The shortcut appeared, and the problem was fixed!

I have the same error message appearing on my phone about every half hour, even when the phone is not being used. I did a factory reset and whilst removing icons from the home screen it happened again. the Trouble has only been since I did the ROM update downloaded from the HTC support site.

Well, you probably don't have to hard reset your phone!
I did, then when I was reinstalling apps I began getting the android.acore error again after re-installing Hootsuite. When I uninstalled it the error stopped and I didn't even have to restart!

I am getting the same error when attempting to select a specific contact. Coincidentally, the contact is the only one who has called my android using google phone.

I wanted to throw in 2 cents.
Phone: Samsung Intercept
Issue: For no reason at all, the phone started getting the "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly"
Solution: I tracked (by trying various "fixes" suggested here and other sites) it down to my CALL LOG on the phone.
I downloaded an app that wiped out the phone's call log, and that was it! Like magic.

I GOT IT !!!!! I HAVE FIGURED THIS OUT !!!!
My spouse and I both got HTC Incredibles. I set both devices up. I have a TWITTER account, and my spouse DOES NOT. From the very first day, I had this issue with my device, and my spouse NEVER HAD IT. The issue, lies with the syncing of contacts between, TWITTER FOR HTC SENSE, PEEP, & your DEVICE. It sucks to have to do a factory reset, but there is no other way to fix the problem. HERE IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT: WHEN SETTING UP YOUR DEVICE. DO NOT ENTER YOUR TWITTER INFORMATION INTO TWITTER FOR HTC SENSE, PEEP, OR ANY OTHER THING THAT ASKS FOR YOUR "TWITTER" INFO. To use twitter, just download the Twitter for Android App. (you get all of the same functionality...just no peep) Just stay away from peep, and twitter for htc sense and you should be fine.
Until HTC, Google and Verizon come up with anything better, that is my solution. If anyone has any input...I'd love to hear it...because I actually kind of like peep, but it is certainly not worth the aggrivation that it brings along with it.
---Thanks,
Rob

Here is how to fix the android.process.acore issue. Follow this link that I posted the answer. http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/94/p/7932/35009.aspx#35009
Fixed:
On Gmail:
G1) I backed up my contacts (Contacts > More options > Export)
G2) Restored my contacts from 1 week ago (Contacts > More options > Restore contacts...)
On my Android
A1) I've disabled all contact sync options (Accounts and sync > Manage accounts) , since I got the error when opening my contacts
A2) I went to Applications > Manage Applications > All > Account and Sync Settings
A3) Stopped the service and deleted the cache
On Gmail
G3) Imported my backup contacts (Contacts > More options > Import) (it indeed said 1 contact was empty and thus ignored)
On my Android
A4) Enabled contact sync
I have not checked if I need to merge my contacts again, but at least I've fixed the error. :)

I had this problem with my MID Superpad 2 Flytouch 3. Nothing worked except a hard reset which for me was start button+menu button+back button during boot. Problem was completely solved.
I isolated this problem as having occured after installing an app called Slide It Keyboard. Uninstaling the app did not work as the android keyboard kept starting and closing continuously and creating the above error.
I hope this of help to some of you out there !
