I need to be able to group people together and text them all at one time like I did with my blackberry perl any ideas?I have yet to try it (I am in the process of putting contacts in my phone and waiting for my old number to port over to this one)...but I imagined that you could create groups in your contacts and then pick the group when you send the text message?

I really need there to be this feature too - I have unlimited texts and usually group text quite a lot. Don't go all Apple-like on us, Google. Please don't not deny us of features that have been standard to phones for YEARS :(

you can group text, u just put in ur contact or number and then a comma should appear and just add a new contact and number and so on.

E.g. My contacts list consists of:

John
Jerry
Louise
Sarah
Mike
Roger

Now, Louise, Mike and Roger are members of my family. I want to set up a group called 'Family' and include them all in it. So each time I want to text the family, all I have to choose this group as opposed to selecting each person one by one.

Anyone know if this is possible?

Not sure if someone posted already but to mass or group text simply create a contact (group) per say go to mobile and add the number place comma after number and place next number and just continue this format untill u add all your numbers and then save contact.

p.s. thats a poorly done quote above me.

here's one version. Couldn't find the thread initially about it.

here's one version. Couldn't find the thread initially about it.That...sounds like it MAY work, have you tried it? It does sound very tedious though. I have just logged into GMail on my computer, and made a group called 'Football' - 11 people I text every weekend together because we play football on Sundays. In a minute or two, my phone will sync and the group will be viewable on my phone...so I will try to see if I can select the group.

Back to your suggestion, when adding 10 mobile numbers (e.g) to one contact, will it not ask you to pick the number you want to send to, as opposed to sending it to every mobile number for that contact? I know my old phone did this.

My old number will be ported over to T-Mobile tomorrow, so I will test out the texting features then and post an update. In the mean time, is there a specific Google forum, or an e-mail address where we can send in suggestions/issues? I will more than happily send detailed messages to them.

Thanks.

I don't know if it works, I don't think I've ever texted more then three or four people at atime, so I don't have a need for it with texting. But whomever recommended said it worked for them so if its something you gotta have it may be worth a shot.

Sorry don't have anything on google forums either, although I think they may have a contqact on one og the google blogs, sorry don't have the link to any on my phone. But I susspect you could google it :)

Adding groups in your Gmail does not add them into your phone contacts list.

i accidentally found a workaround to this...

send a single text message to all the people you want in your group.. when you send the message, it creates a new thread with all those contacts as recipients. their responses will come as new threads, but if you text to that thread that got created with all of them, they will all get your messages. (so just leave it open)

of course, i would hope that this will come to the CONTACTS soon, because its a poor workaround

Smoger, thanks for this...have you tried it? It sounds like the best workaround so far.

you're welcome, and yes it works for sure. i found out the hard way when i accidentally texted like 12 people at once...

which brings me to another point.. there's a bug related to this too that you should be careful of..(i submitted it to the android project for review yesterday)..

..if you begin to compose a message to multiple recipients, it will add their names at the top as recipients. if you delete those numbers before sending(say you decided to only send to 1 person..) and send the message.. it will only send to the final list, but the newly created thread will still contain the full list of original recipients that you deleted.. which would then cause you to text ALL of them if you reply to that newly created thread
