Before the RC29 update when I plugged my G1 into my MacBook Air, or a Windows XP machine the sd card while in the G1 showed up as a removable drive.
After updating my G1, and while the G1 is connected to my MacBook Air or Windows XP machine it no longer shows up as a removable drive.
The only way I can get music and videos on the SD card is to plug it into a card reader. Even doing that I've noticed that the time it takes to transfer my music (about 400mb) is now taking around 15 minutes to transfer over (it never took that long to transfer anything before the RC 29 update, or any of my Windows Mobile devices).
I formatted the card twice, and still won't show up when my G1 is connected via USB, only shows up when it's in a card reader, and transfer speed is slow.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

when you plug into a computer, on the G1 you should see a notification that says "USB connected" and asks if you want to mount it. Files on the microSD is always accessible by the phone now, except when you're connected by USB and choose the 'mount' option. Much better than before where you have to remember to toggle the USB access.

When I connect to my MacBook Air I get nothing, before it would show up as a removable card on my desktop.
In Windows it now asks me if I want to mount it, I click yes, it shows a removable disk as "E", when I try to open it I get "Please insert a Disk into Drive E". Righ clicking properties of the disk shows File System "Unknown", Used Space 0bytes", free space "0 bytes".
I know there's music and videos on the card because I can play them on the G1.

I never had to toggle USB access before, the card always showed up automatically on My MacBook Air's desktop, and "My Computer " in Windows XP. I never had to do anything except plug in my G1.
Even the transferring of files since the update it taking much longer than it should when I use a USB card reader to transfer stuff.

ariesboy answered your question. This is a new feature of the update. It's a good thing, sometimes you may want to charge via USB and still have access to your card media through the G1.

Dang good thing someone mentioned that. I just noticed it. My question is why wouldn't you want to mount the sd card to your pc when you plug it in?
Thanks for the answers guys.

If you're watching movies, listening to music. Too bad the system doesn't allow for dual access to the microSD. One thing that was nice in the WM is that the smartphone can view a doc or play a song as soon as you uploaded from the computer.

So how do I get it back to working the way it did before? I never had to use a card reader to add music or video, I just plugged in my G1 and was able to transfer data. I just want to be able to do what I was able to do yesterday, plug in my G1 to my MacBook Air, the card would show on my desktop and I could drag and drop music and video. It's annoying to have to use a card reader to do this now.
I think it's an issue with my SD card due to the update because it won't show up in OS X, in Windows XP it shows up but says format unknown, O bytes used, 0 bytes free, I can't open it to drop and files in it it. On the G1 under sd cards settings it shows total space "unavailable", available space "unavailable".
I just don't want to use a card reader every time I want to add music or video, should be able to just connect my G1 and be able to mount it and drop music and videos on the sd card while it's in the G1, not only an external card reader.
It works fine when I insert it into an external card reader in both OS X and Windows.

I'm on the phone with T-Mobile G1 support the rep is saying that I should have an option to check use as mass storage under settings>sd card. I don't have that option. The rep is telling me to do a factory data reset. I'm holding off in case any of the experts here know how I can get the feature back w/out completely resetting my G1. Thanks in advance.
-Update-
I did the factory reset like the rep said to do and I still can't mount my sd card after the RC29 update. I don't see the option he told me I should have in "settings" to check off to use as mass storage.
I still can only move music and videos by using a card reader.

Never mind! I found out what changed... They removed it from the SETTINGS Menu and when you connect via USB, you have to select the notification in your notification pull down. It gives you the option to MOUNT it to your computer when you click on that notification...
Finally found the answer.
