No need to do all this.

Just do the steps at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439733

I just installed AnyCut, chose Device Info, then did 'check for upgrade'.

On the 2nd attempt it found the update, downloaded it, then when i opened the keyboard it said 'update available!' and did the normal upgrade. No command line required!

i think it's working it's d/ling something lol

Nyek! same date and time here lol!

Maybe a generic date? Cause what are the odds of having the same date/time and finding this thread?

I did it manually. Now I can select an anycut shortcut to direct sms and it works fine. Before it would default to the persons # instead of message body.

I finally got my RC29 update today @ 327AM Chicago time. :D
Which is funny because I thought seeing as how I had my G1 since OCT 17th, I thought I would have gotten my update a while ago. O well, no noticeable differences.

Yeah, there's nothing big. Nothing even big enough to notice, really. The coolest part about the update was seeing some new screens... I'll post pics later, but I'm sure you've all probably seen them by now.

I freaked out when it hit lol. I was in bed playing on my G1 (of course) and a little pop-up appeared and said (and this isn't word-for-word) "And update is available. Note that during the update you won't be able to make even emergency calls, and the phone will reboot during the process". Then gave me the option to proceed with the update, or to cancel... I of course went ahead with the update.

The phone immediately shut off and then powered on to a screen showing only the download progress of the update. Then after that was done, it went to some other screen that I can't remember... then it flashed off and back on to a screen showing a picture of a cool looking computer chip, with an arrow - like it was replacing the chip - but of course, it was just replacing the software within the chip...

Then after a reboot (which stayed on the "android [pulsing logo]" screen for about 5 minutes, I bet) the phone was all back to normal.

i am int he same boat as you. kinda piss's me off seems how the reason for the rc29 is the security issue. now we have the one witht he prob and stuck with it? little pissed...

i called t-mobile they transfered me to a so called "specialist" and i asked him about it he said there have been no updates that he knew of...

i asked what kind of specialist are you? and i could tell he was upset by my comment i said "do you even have a G1?" he was like no...why?

lol android community is the best bet when having issues lol

you guys should do the manual. its so easy. its kinda hard to mess it up.
all you;re doing is downloading it, renaming, and placing it on the root folder of your SD card. and follow instructions it gives you.

not much different. not sure about my battery life since i had it plugged to my laptop loading music and backgrounds.
the 1 notable difference is when u connect it to your pc, it asks if you want to mount it to upload to the phone or hit cancel (if you just want to charge it thru ur oc

I actually tried the manual way to upgrade but it hasn't worked for me... all it ever says is error directory doesn't exist or such path can't be found... something like that. I tried downloading it with a vista pc and a mac labtop, the mac unzipped the folder the vista didn't, I tried with the 2 different folders at different times renaming them "update.zip" then "update" and I got the same message everytime... anyyone else got the same problem?

The only REAL difference I've found is how the phone reacts when attached to a PC via USB.

The phone used to always have the option to check or uncheck "use for usb storage". Now it does not.

When you connect via USB, a notification comes in, and you tap it, and it says "do you want to copy files to the phone? if so, click mount. If you just want to charge, click cancel"

or something to that effect.

kinda neat... kinda annoying.

Got mine in the morning but since my alarm went off and I tried to turn it off, the msg went away. I thought that I would be added to the bottom of the list, but by afternoon the update msg came up again and there you go I got my update.

I haven't notice anything yet though.

11-02-2008, 08:11 PM
ok... I've been out of town since Thursday at my parents house... Their computer is a crapper... When I got those I/O errors, I was using their computer.

Now I'm back home, at my own beloved PC... and I'm not getting the error... Forgive me! Forget the error! Now I absolutely LOVE the new USB connection dialog!

Hi - I'm in the UK and still on RC7

Tried to do the manual update via SD card and it failed at line 1 - and aborted the update.

Anyone know where I can get other older updates? I wonder if being on RC7 is the problem.

got mine saturday 11/1. atlanta area. man... the battery life is awesome now! i had mine off the charger for 12 hours, and still had 50% battery life. only used it for the basic stuff... taking a few calls.... sending some texts, checking out and installing a few apps for a while. no heavy video/music/gps stuff. before the update this usage would have had me @ or below 20%. great update!

Is there an official list as to what this update fixed?

I know about the plug into pc thing, and the cursor going now to the body of a text as opposed to the name of the recipient is awesome.

But what else?

I have a feeling that most people's battery life is better because the phone rebooted and all that other stuff is not running in the background. So far i do not see that it ends anything after you are done using it.......

Any word on a program to end processes?

just FYI, i constantly rebooted my phone to kill apps... before I got the update. just to save battery life. after the update i have not rebooted at all and noticed the battery difference....and i've used plenty of apps and background services

Has anyone actually got the update and did not get a notifcation. I went to go update mine just now and under device info it already shows me at RC29...And I KNOW it said RC28 the other day. Thing is I don't have service at my house, where me and my phone are most of the time, and there were no pending notifications on the screen or in the notifcation bar, so I have NO CLUE when I got the update.

I've recieved 2Updates...Just recieved another today. That 1st update helped my fun alot with running slow, my battery being hot and my battery was not being used up as fast but was still running down at a good clip. I think it helped alot with the bugs because I've had it shut off on it's own. I hope this 2nd update helps even more. The only complaint that I have is that the Battery drains so fast even with making sure all my phone settings are set to save power, background light included. And I do hope that we will soon have multi-options for Media Players. I always get pages that say "You need to Download Adobe..." Do anyone has this same issue?

RC30 hit my phone today (Sunday 11/9) here in Philadelphia.

Two days ago I did a factory reset which deleted the RC29 that I had already received. The result was that I had RC28 again when RC30 dropped in on top of it.
I've found no ill effects so far.

So I've got RC 29, and had it for a while now, but haven't tried the GPS since I had received the update. Under RC 19 the GPS worked great when I was outside, it would take a minute or so to lock on to my location, but then would follow me exactly where I went, I was very surprised! Well, today I was driving and there was dead stop traffic due to a wreck so I said to myself, why not try to use GPS and google maps to find a way around it. Well I tried it but to no avail. It never locked on to my location (in fact, it was never even close) so I just had to navigate it myself. On the way home I tried to do it again and about 15 minutes later it finally got CLOSE to my location, but the outlying blue circle never locked onto my location. It wasn't until I got close to my home that the location was close. It never locked on, which is very interesting because it used to work so well. Any thoughts on this issue? I am posting it here because this is where the RC29 conversation is taking place so I figured it would fit best here, but if I don't get any answers I'll try to post it elsewhere, maybe a standalone topic. Let me know what you guys think.
