i mean yeah it looks awsome!
and its new but
theres still alot of things that has to be fixed
like opening annd closing the screen freezes the phone
and you toch something and it dont even react to the press till you press it twice. (sometimes)
the chin somewhat bothers when you want to type
it looses internet connection at times
and the zoom in and out buttons when you're on the web, they suck!
n yeah thats all folks

lately i've had to double press on links twice, but none of the other tuff has come up for me. as for the zoom, irecomend more use of the magnifying glass (bottom right of the screen, when zoom is up) and the track ball, that made it much better for me. and like you said its new and can/will be fixed.

I think that's all personal opinion, yea stuff has to be fixed but that's nothing new with any phone. At least with this one you have an option of updating it.

Mine hasn't frozen and responds pretty well. I've never had a problem with internet connection.

Also, I like the zoom in/out buttons. Like I said, all personal opinion.

I could talk about how firmware will get updated blah blah. But all I'll say is I like the phone more than any other phone I've ever owned and that's alot.

Wow look another G1 gripe thread. Thank you for your opinion, for being the 100th identical thread, you win a big fat sarcastic response! Congratulations. I am absolutely, personally ecstatically happy for you. On top of all of this, you also get exclusive access to the hot new function found all over the webdernets called "search" - It rocks the socks off of your favorite, and most hated forums.

Also, they cannot "fix" the physical form of the phone, although I do like to think that it could have been made better also. This freeze when flipping.. don't know what you mean, take your defective phone back, mine flips the orientation faster than all other accelerometer phones..

The zoom function works fine for me once the page is loaded, much like all other 'smartphones' - And haven;t had much of a problem with having to double press things, maybe it's when you're not zoomed in and didn't press exact enough or made a slight motion? Also could be one of those things that your fingers need to get experienced to? Learning the iPhone touch screen was kind of a hassle for me (exact pressing spots, etc), but got easy of course after some light use..

Anyhow, happy Halloween!

To each his/or her own.

SO how is the master plan coming? Got room for any embittered IT guys? I've always wanted to use a death ray, and figure that my imagination could be considered training and experience.

Let me know - resume on demand.

I Guess Your Not Ready For Something Different And That Is Somewhat Understandable... I Believe This Phone Is ROCKING and Since Its New There Are More Things To Come... Imagine What It Could Do In 1 Year...

Every Item in reality has its good and bad sides... I love my G1 but that doesnt mean it is not lacking in certain areas...especially the basic phone Areas...

I still want Video recording and a real video player... not the 2 junky ones on the market that dont do some of my videos justice

The Camera is crappy, even though it takes good pictures... I need more options when I am in camera mode (Brightness, color, tint, timer, sound on/off, variable sounds and so on) Not only the location and prompt after capture.

I cant even think about most right now...

All T-mobile did was set up a plan to use with the phone... no problem with them
All Google did was create an OS (Android) for the phone to run on... but the OS still needsa million miles to go (And they are lazily leaving it for the developers - whom I have no issues with... )
All HTC did was create the hardware (with its own limitations - especially the battery)

True, G1 sorta sucks.... BUT BUT BUT, it is still great, and greater than most if not all.

I tested one for a couple of days and there were not too many issues. Many things I loved about the phone but compared to my Titan, the GPS was terrible. The GPS on my PPC finds me within a few feet in a matter of seconds. The G1 could never find me regardless of GPS settings.

The rest can be fixed with apps because the other 2 things I missed were streaming media (shoutcast, Orb, etc.) and Exchange.

If they could fix the GPS with an update and apps come out for the other 2 things I could consider it. Until then I will have to stick with my clunky but still more functional winmo phone.

- Design is not the best but I will agree it is more positive than negative.
- Opening and closing the screen does not freeze the phone (from my personal experience
- if properly pressed phone screen will respond instantly
- you need to get used to chin and typing on the qwerty keyboard G1 has
- it does not looses connection at all - my personal experience
- zoom in and zoom out show up at the right time and they do not suck. If you used WM device then I see your point - trying to use your finger nails instead of finger touch will cause you not to get what you press for.

G1 is not perfect but it is very good phone. I like it and will not return it. It does misses some of the important stuff but hey now - what you want for $179.99 :) ... I think it is fair price and it will be improved. Basically all negative feedbacks ppl have about it are software related and do not interfere with great hardware...

I don’t think it sucks; that’s a bit too harsh, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

It’s new hardware and 1st generation software, so for jumping in at such an early stage I’m willing to accept some occasional flakiness.

I’ve noticed the occasional lockup/shutdown after closing the screen, but have not been able to reproduce it on demand and it hasn’t happened the last two day (knock on wood). I don’t think it’s a hardware issue and I’m expecting an eventual update may resolve this entirely at some point. I’m still on R19 btw, not that it matters.

Touch-tones don’t get relayed into a call, so working through an IVR system that doesn’t allow voice commands doesn’t go so well, haven’t figured out how to delete Gmail messages without first opening them, no bookmark edit/delete functions etc, no Hotmail integration….etc

All pretty minor stuff and stuff I’m willing to concede just to have the cutting edge phone with Android on it.

The Market Place is still charging up and will eventually deliver the goods, so be patient. I think we are in store for cool apps that will more than likely resolve most early complaints and go well beyond.

I agree with all this, just want to note that I don't take too much away from google; they have made the source code completely free which sort of leaves it to the community to better it.. Definitely lacking, but great starting point..

I

haven’t figured out how to delete Gmail messages without first opening them, no bookmark edit/delete functions etc, no Hotmail integration….etc

To delete a message without opening it, long press on the email header and a box will pop up with delete as one of the options.

You can't get your hotmail because Microsoft doesn't allow pop access.
