View Full Version : No 'Esc' key?

I was using ConnectBot to log into an ssh server the other day. I pulled up vi to edit a file and was completely unable to find an escape key on the keyboard. It's a LITTLE hard to use vi without escape. I'm probably missing something obvious. Any ideas?

If you'd read the helpful hints it brings up after you accept the license you'd know that you press the trackball twice to send the escape key :)

You can view it again by pressing menu, clicking about, and accepting the agreement again.

Thanks! Actually, when I did the vi test, I was using version 1.0, which was one version before the one in the Market and it did not have these notes. Still, I should have read them when I downloaded from the Market the other day! :o

Wow! Press the trackball twice to get 'Esc'?? I would say that makes vi pretty unusable, given the location of the trackball. Perhaps the devs can come up with a better solution in the future...

ok, while desperate to find the Escape key while editing with vi (I first lost all my data because Trackball push+BACK is NOT it) I found that ^12 (that is, Trackball pushed in then pressing 1 and then pressing 2) seemed to do the trick :)

Hell the hell did you "find" this? Sheer luck? Thank bejezus I found your post.

Now I can finally get out of editing mode on vi in my android terminal emulator, and actually _use_ the program.
