On my G1 Under Build Number it says:-
kila_uk-user 1.0 TC5-RC7 112931
ota-rel-keys,rlease-keys
Do other UK users have the same?
I assume that our OTA updates are going to be different from the US too?
We do have a couple of differences that I know of, No Amazon store and only Google talk in the IM app.
The first I can understand, same as with itunes store etc, it's to do with who owns the licence for distribution in this country, the second is a mystery but utterly unimportant to me as I haven't IM'ed much for about 8 years.

Snap, I have the same thing. I must say I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of Yahoo and Windows messenger. It looks like the pre-release and promo units had it but the production units don't. More than slightly dishonest.

Same here too, my main concern is we're going to be stiffed on software updates - already we're behind the US as we don't have the RC29 update features, and I can't help but wonder if we're going to get forgotten about six months down the line when US customers are still getting new function and fixes.
Maybe someone will figure out how we can alter the phone identity to match the US model (as the hardware is presumably identical) and get the US updates.
Regarding the messenger, it's probably an attempt to retain SMS revenue - many operators neuter the messenger features on Windows Mobile phones too. I read that on the G1 in the US, MSN/Yahoo messages get counted in your text message allowance - presumably T-Mobile UK doesn't have the infrastructure to monitor it and bill us accordingly so they just removed the function.

i wouldnt worry too much - yahoo/msn used sms services to do messaging - so it was probably relying on t-mobile usa back end services.
if you want all IM services goto www.meebo.com - sorted - free and using data not sms.
mine has the same 'kila' build

Makes us all sound like Gangsta Rappers :D
You aren't missing anything with the built-in MSN...it sucks anyway. I think most people are waiting for a decent client to show up in the market.

Anyone going to be brave enough to try flashing a US image onto their phone using the SD card method on xda-devs? ;)

Incidentally, does anyone's UK G1 have 'HTC' printed on the left side of the phone? I've seen lots of pics of US G1s with this but it's not present on my black UK model.

No HTC logo/name.
Dispite the lack of native Yahoo/Microsoft messenger I love it. All we need now is a Word, Excel and PDF reader.

one of the great things about this phone and android in general is
you know all that will come - with other phones its stays doing what it did from the start.
im a bit disappointed but not desperatly so with the hardware.
compared to the touch pro and touch HD its not as nice. but hey ho.
likewise no HTC innovation on the side - it is on the battery though
