Mine is. It's the one aesthetic thing that really bothers me. If I thought I'd get a new phone real fast I'd send it in for a replacement but I'm moving in a week and don't live in a 3G area so no in store replacement;

This should be in the G1 forum---certainly not in the app forum.

Damnit....I never noticed it until I read this thread! But I'm afraid if I replace it, I might get a phone with other problems. Because other than that R and surrounding keys my phone is perfect.

Mm, slightly.. but, like most of you (I'm sure), I didn't notice until just now. And that should be a sign that it's nothing to really gripe about.

EDIT: This should be in the Hardware > G1 thread, not the Android Market thread.

Yeah, I guess, if it really gets on my nerves later on down the line, I always have that 1 year warranty.

My R key is fine.

My left Shift Key on the other hand does not click like the rest so I can never tell if I really hit it.

yup yup, sunk in. So long as it doesn't cause problems, i'll be fine...but I'll probably take it in just to be safe

Don't know if its just me but does anyone else have keys that get more sunked in the closer they are to the chin? I can barely feel my right shift and del.

I had the same problem. Took it back and got a better one....still a little sunk in certain areas but for sure much improved. It also gives a more definative click when I press---or just the buttons feel much better. Build quality on these phones is less than on par---IMO.

same here.. prior to returning my g1, waiting on my replacement to arrive...
and yes htc could have made the g1 feel more solid like the wing or the diamond..

It was that way on the bronze I had and it's the same way on my new black one. I guess that's just the way it is, a little bit sunk in.

snorkee, i like the way you think. I didnt want to be a tool and return it if all g1 are like this. Cool beans, ill keep it then. ALSO double sided tape on the inside of the battery cover will stop the creeking. and eliminate the small gap in space that is there.

R,t,d,f,c and #3 are sunk in on mine. It bugs... makes it difficult to text. I have the bronze one and all the other bronze ones I've seen have the same problem. Sux! Although, I've checked the black ones and those don't seem to have that problem. Anyone else agree? Only bronze has this issue.

The bottom right of my R key is about the same height as my F key, and maybe even my D key, hard to tell. everything still works. maybe some kind of hole in the board beneith it or something?

So I went to t-mobile to exchange for another. They laughed at me and said the phoneis designedthat way to allow room for the slide. So, no exchange for me.

Has anyone exchanged for this issue?

Melody

on my first one the r was below the plate thing when i got it. after a week of use it was so far in the little hole that i had to use a pen cap to type r or any of the keys within a few spaces of the r. when my new one got here the other day it had the same problem. i have only had it for a few days and its already way lower than it was. i have dainty little girl hands and i am really gentle with it. i also hardly use the keyboard so i know I'm not pounding them in there. hopefully this next one wont have this issue. I'm afraid of what the keyboard would be like after a few months.

when i used the g1 for the first time i felt like i had vertigo because the keyboard was so much lower on the left side. when i would look at it my brain would freak out because it thought the keys should be flat but my eyes were seeing it how it was. it was a weird sensation. when i showed it to a guy at the tmobile store he started to type and then said WOAH! and sat down. lol

i dont believe that for a minute. the guys at the store by my house all have black g1s and the difference between theirs and mine was huge. all the keys on the ones they bought in their store stuck up way farther than even the highest keys on my phone. they were all the same height too. i exchanged once and had the same issue so i am waiting on another new one. i wish i could look at them ahead of time.

Hmm never noticed that. My 'R' is sunk in too. I don't mind it though. Its really a waste of time to return it for anything less than a cracked screen or completely doesn't work.

I don't know what's wrong with your G1's. But mine is perfect.

R key is perfect.

Keep in mind that I returned mines cause there was a problem with the headset. I would answer a call and it would mute the call.

my keys were sunk in like that on my 1st phone. i got a new one and and none of the keys are like that, so it's not supposed to be like that. the person at the store who told you that is an idiot.

JayBachatero
11-10-2008, 09:19 AM
The new phone that I got, all the keys are like that. I think that they are limited in supply and don't have enough to do exchanges. They told me that the loose screen is normal as well.

the phone is plastic... i mean if the performance is well that little knicknacks shouldnt be an issue.. if the letter types then its fine!

my replacement phone has the: r, e, s, x, c, keys are flush with the keyboard backing. The: d, f, m, comma, enter, del, l, and k keys are sunk below the keyboard backing. With that issue and my screen making noise every time I even look at it. This phone is on its way back.

Mines not sunk in either.

But I wonder if it was when I first got the phone.

The keyboard overall seemed a lot more stiff when I first got the phone compared to now so maybe it needs "breaking in"?

I text a crap load so maybe that's why?

Called T-mobile G1 help line, the tech I spoke to said all the G1's they had, had the R key sunk in...And she said she would log the issue....Don't hold your breath...

After visiting a few retailers who all told me something different, I finally called 611 and was told I would have to pay $100 replacement fee because I waited beyond the 14 day period.

Here is the best part, the T-Mobile rep said there is no record of anyone having this issue, so it would be considered user damage and not covered by warranty.
