My G1 camera takes like 5 secs to take a pic and most of the time the picture comes out blurry. You basically haf to push the camera button for 4-5 secs for it to take a picture... is it just me or the phone itself?????

It's a pretty common problem. You can half-push the button to get it to auto-focus but I still get blurry shots unless what I'm taking a picture of is unable to move.

I was having the same problem with the camera of bury pic so i decided to play around and i found a better way to take pics!
Simply hold the camera steady and click the trackball once to take pic, wait for a few secs for it to auto focus. I like this technique a lot better bcuz i can hold the phone more steady.

You're talking about two things. It takes five seconds for the camera app to turn on. Then it takes less than a second to take a photograph. The problem is that the camera app is not always on--it has to load first. Once the app is loaded, you can quickly take picture after picture.

I've noticed the pictures are a little darker that I would expect.
Had a BB Pearl before and even without the flash, they seem lighter/more true light.
Anyone else notice that too?

I wish I could delete the camera and replace it with a soon to be made camera app.

So can there be an app or an update made for a better camera. Or is it a hardware problem?

Don't think you can do that. The problem is the shutter speed. If you increase this you have to also open the aperature to let more light in. I think this will be a hardware limitation. The camera is pretty much worthless to me.
If anything somebody maybe, but doubtful, make an app that has image stability but that still won't get over the sloooooooow shutter speed so motion blur most likely won't go away.
