My first arrived with a speck of dust under the screen, drove me crazy. T-mobile sent me out a replacement with no problem. This one solved the dust issue but brought several new ones. The screen is completely unstable when not flipped open, in other words it is not solid. If I touch the screen anywhere there is a lot of play between the screen and keyboard parts. The first phone with the dust was completely solid in this regard. So I called T-mobile again today and they are shipping me a 3rd phone. Let's hope third times a charm....

I think it is because I purchased and signed up through business sales. Their inventory seems to be a separate entity.
I have a similar problem.
Returned my bronze for a black due to that silver keyboard.
open the new one and guess what- the R key and some around it are sunken down :/
long story that i will post later- but looks like i may be doing the same thing
they need to ditch HTC and have sharp make these things..

Funny thing is my previous 3 phones were HTC without issues. BTW I absolutely love the phone and Android, but I will not accept a flawed phone. I know there are G1's out there without the issues I have had. Like I said, hopefully 3rd time is a charm!

the squeeky screen is annoying, why cant the g1 be as solid as the tmo wing( i have to use my wing until my replacement arrives ). But after using the G1 for a while before sending it back i did get used to the squeeky screen and the chin blocking the keyboard, but i can say that typing on the tmo wing is alot easier..
BUT I MISS MY G1 and all the apps that are out on the market...

I think HTC made a huge mistake going with the arcing slide design. It only rotates on the right side on one hinge it seems. They should have slid it on rails, it would have eliminated a lot of the issues we are experiencing. Other than looking cool I cannot think of any advantage the arcing offers.

Not a mistake at all... it's quite brilliant in conception, but there is an obvious engineering flaw at loose here. Shame really... but what they are gaining with this design is that the buttons and track ball remain parallel with the keyboard when extended. Having owned an HTC Apache PPC 6700 for like 3 years (which slid on very solid rails), I can tell you that this is a much better ballanced and ergonomic setup. That's my non professional opinion of course...

They're probably going to call that personal negligence and not replace it for you.

they spent their money on it and signed a 2 year contract probably... asking for a non defective product isn't too much to ask...
granted i agree its a small issue that does not affect the functional nature of the phone, but i would completely understand where they're coming from

I've noticed after flipping the screen up and down several times you can feel the screen rocking back and forth just a little bit when in the "down" position. Also when I flip it up and turn it to the horizontal position, the bottom of the screen looks like it is just a tad bit crooked. I'm trying not to let this bug me but it's starting to. Plus I'm really focused on all of the software bugs in the phone right now.
