Anyone have problems with the 3G network ? ? Like it just stops working randomly and I cant connect to anything. Thing is I have full signal and still have the 3G icon but still nothing . . . I can restart the phone and it usually works fine afterwards but this is happening every day now. You think this is a phone problem or from Tmobile ? ? ?

Happened to be today. In addition, for some reason, if you are on a call, you won't be able to receive data. I thought 3G allowed voice and data to be transmitted simultaneously. Am I wrong?

It has been happening to me since I got the phone. [Pre-Release] It started off only happening once a day to now it seems to be more frequent.

In San Diego - And I'm having the same issues. Just got the phone on Monday, and it worked on the edge network the first day here in north san diego (no 3g), but I have 3g in south san diego and the network just comes and goes. Quite frustrating. I hope it's not a lingering problem!

Yea if im on 2g it works ok but when I put it on 3g it will work for like an hour and then stop working out of the blue. I dont get it. It messed up every time today after about an hour or less on 3g.

In my "3G market" I cannot even get a 3G lock at both of my primary use locations; home and work. It's very disappointing, I use to have the iPhone 3G and I got 3G EVERYWHERE.

Maybe Tmobile wasn't ready to have a 3G network . . .

I'm having the same issues as well. I will be sitting in my living room and it will be on 1 bar of 3G and then it switches to 3 bars of EDGE. Very frustrating. I am in Kirkland, WA.

Same thing with me. Even though I have the EDGE or 3G icon on the phone, it says "there is not network connection right now Please try again later"
The data connection (3g or edge) has been working on and off since I received my g1 yesterday.

Mine is being Gay also, when I get to school it switches to 2G in certain classrooms and it's totally gay. I have only found one classroom I get 3G in. I'm in the Middle of the Chicago Loop for God's Sake! Get me my Service!

ha wow i didn't know networks had a sexual orientation...
anyway, i have also had this happen to some of my friends phones... mine has been fine. they are in a 3g area of san diego while i am not. i have yet to ask them if it works while on edge though.
I'm having the same issue. 3G works for awhile and then it stops working. The 3G icon displays but I can't connect to internet with Browser or Market. Happens every day now. After an hour or two it starts working again.

Seems to be a more and more common problem:

I talked with a coworker today who picked up a G1 also and he said he's been having problems with the Internet (3G) connection not working even though it shows he's connected. Wondering if its a phone issue, switching it to flight mode and then back again brings it back to life as does turning it off and on again.

I'm having mostly all the same problems everyone in this thread are having. I wonder if this is a hardware, software, or network issue? Whatever it is, it needs to be fixed because I'm not paying $35 for unreliable connection.

I had a problem yesterday, until I realized that they had not switched my plan yet.. lol..
The 3G was running free up until yesterday in my area, So I had no clue my data plan did not switch over automatically as it was supposed to..

I’ve had similar issues with loss of data connectivity, but I don’t believe it to be related to only 3G. I live in a neighborhood just outside of a 3G range here in Phoenix, so am usually on Edge at home.
I noticed the data service drop after a prolonged Wi-Fi connection – seems it can’t resolve either, so does nothing. If I turn off Wi-Fi the G1 eventually figures it out and restores the data service. That or I get impatient and restart the phone.
I talked to T-Mobile this weekend and they said they are planning a release of some kind next Saturday to address some ‘3G/wi-fi issues.’ Unfortunately that’s about the extent of the details I got from him, but I did clarify he wasn’t referring to the RC29 update.
If anyone know or can find out more, please share.

Maybe Tmobile wasn't ready to have a 3G network . . .
Or this phone...seriously, im considering sending this thing back. Its getting on my last nerve. Too many little issues here and there. Glorified sidekick.

Really?! I hope this is true, we should try to find out more information about this.

Yeah the same exact thing happens to me.
I'm in the Orange county area and it there will be days where its really good.
But sometimes out of nowhere the 3G and edge decide not to work.

its not RC29 my phone started doing this on oct 30th and was still RC19, its now been updated to RC29 and this problem continues, not sure if its caused by the phone or my t-mobiles network but i would lean on it being the network but its hard to say only they can fully figure this problem out and they don't seem to be talking about it much to people so far :(

btw – If powering off then back on again is not reconnecting the data service try what the T-Mobile rep told me to do: With the power on, remove the battery for 2-3 minutes before putting it back in and restarting the phone.
This seems to be a more reliable way of reconnecting, although takes longer.
Hope they get this resolved soon.

tmobile tech support is reporting a "global 3g connection problem" in response to my phonecall this morning. They could not predict when the problem would be solved - but "they're working on it". I asked if I could set it back to 2G and they said that would probably also be a problem. I've had really slow connections or no connection at all for the last several days.
