androidmonkey

I attached some images to an email and sent it to myself. The Gmail app does not display the images. Is this normal? Its a JPG image and Gmail app shows a box with a ? mark in place of the image.

I get a small thumbnail of the pic along with a choice to either preview or download... not sure why you're not seeing it.

I also get the ? Strange that's its different for some. Maybe its a setting within gmail that we may not have access to via the phone? I will investigate and get back.
I can't view images either just the ?

I get that as well. My only problem happens when I forward MM text messages to save, since I don't want to send to 222, I forward to my gmail. When I open the messages and choose display pictures from the top, nothing happens.

I get the same thing but if I go to gmail through the browser the pictures there and I can download it not sure what the problem is.

Ok, this is what I see. If an image is Attached to the email, it allows you to download or preview it. If the image is embedded in the message, then it displays a blue box with a ? in it.

Interestingly enough, I have noticed that odd little problems that come with the G1 can (for me, at least) be cured by shutting the phone off, leaving it off for a minute or so, and turning it back on. I was testing my Ringroid ringtone by calling my G1 from my work telephone (yes, the phone has consumed my entire being) and I'd hear my caller tune on my work phone, but my G1 wasn't ringing....the same day, one of my friends wasn't getting any of the texts I was sending him...I shut the phone off, turned it back on, and both problems were fixed and haven't had any issues since then!! I'm used to leaving my cells on 24/7....but the G1 is also 10x more powerful and capable than anything I've ever had...When I put it charge at night, I do the same shut down, turn on routine.....and it's been working perfectly :)

Yea, we have mini computers. I heard on MacBreak Weekly that Apple recommends people restarting the iPhone on a regular basis. Like any computer, memory leaks or other things bog it down over time.

I have the same problem as androidmonkey. Does anyone see embedded images? This will tell us if it's a setting problem or an Android gmail shortcomming that will hopefully be addressed in a future update. My sceptical side says that Tmobile might be trying to reduce data in the beginning of there 3G rollout.

I've heard this before, and I think this is really the problem. The problem is I have a hard time testing because my email clients all put the image in as an attachment, but when viewing incoming emails with attached images, they show them inline. But I've viewed the source of emails that worked correctly and those that don't, and it does seem to come down to the way that they are attached or placed inline. So this should be easy to fix, G. And while you are at it, how about adding in "Next" and "Previous" buttons so we can jump around while reading emails.

You know, this is a really Big Deal (at least to me it is). Where can we contact google folks to ask them about this? Do they have a google group?

the easiest fix to this is open the browser and go to your gmail from the browser, that way you can see the image and have the option of downloading it if you want...
if gmail did show the image it would save the image to the device taking up space that we dont want it to occupy...

What I have noticed is that, I get the "?" whenever I get an email from someone who is not using a gmail account. My friends with the G1 who send me pics I see the picture in my gmail, but my friends with iphone and blackberry I get the ?. Solution: Everyone must get a gmail account, I knew google was up to something...

That's not a "fix" per say, more of a work-around. but thanks.

I don't feel like reading through this thread to see if someone mentioned it already cause I'm running off to break, but if the GMail app doesn't open attached images, go to the E-Mail app that also came with the G1, that will usually display the attachment.
