View Full Version : G1 Dropping Internet Access
I just got my G1 and noticed that after a while, my EDGE (no 3G here) becomes inaccessible. When I click a bookmark, the progress bar flashes left to right and I'm left with a blank page. If I power cycle the phone I get internet access back...for a while, then I have to shutdown again. Getting a bit annoying.

Same problem here! Man, at first I loved the phone. Now I'm encountering more and more problems that make me frustrated.

Are you getting a decent signal?
Have you cleaned out your cache and reset the phone lately?

Same here my 3g turns to edge then I get nothing on browser and market place if I restart my phone it works again

Reset the phone? As in hard reset? Sounds a bit extreme. My signal was always full bars with my Dash at home and work. I notice my G1 fluctuates wildly between 2-4 bars all the time.
And yes, owning a Dash made me a cache cleaning junkie, so it's almost always clear.
This issue reminds me of my old Sidekick I/II. It had a similar behavior, except no 3-dot dance on the G1.

I just meant turn the phone off and on. Not a hard reset. I'm sure you already tried it, but I notice some people never turn there phones off and keep them running 24/7 off the charger when not in use.
LOL about the cache clearing. Coming from a lot of WM phones, I feel you on the clearing.
Maybe it's just the network itself. Lot of people still signing up. The 3G network might be rough in your area for a few weeks. If you use WIFI does it still stop loading the pages?
In my original post, I mentioned the only sure fire way to fix it was to power down/up the phone. I haven't found a way to just "reboot" it so power cycling for now.
You're probably right about network, if I just wait it out the G1 reconnects and starts working again, but that sucks. I wanna surf nnooowww. :D
The waiting game is a tough one cuz the G1 doens't say whether it's connected or not. I always have the little 'E' with up/down arrows.

I spoke to a t-mobile rep today to ask why i wasnt getting 3g.... he told me that in my area it may be because in certain areas edge has a stronger signal than 3g....I think thats sucks cause you cant be on edge and talk on the phone as you can on a 3g network and youtube isnt as fast...
It must be rippling across all plans then because I don't have a G1 plan. I came from a Dash and just popped my SIM into my G1 when it arrived. No 3G here in Hawaii so the phone shouldn't care. I also have it set to only use 2G, yet connectivity with G1 has still been very sporadic.
