Not sure if it's just me but I got the OTA update this morning and my battery seems to be lasting a lot longer today. It's usually at around 50-65% at this time of the day. It's still running at 85% with regular email, messaging, and browsing use. And I have 3g enabled! (No GPS though...) Is anyone else noticing this or is it just my imagination?

My battery has been amzing so far.

It lasted at 90% for at least an hour or so.

It's now at 80%
It's doing surprisingly well. I've also had it on airplane mode for pretty much the whole day seeing how I don't get a signal in my building at work anyway.

Will it just show up on my phone, or do I have to do something to get it?

what were you diong when you got the update? Did it just show up on your screen and you said yes or did your reboot your phone?

As for the extra battery life, i hope this is true.

I had the update when I woke up today...took off the charger at about 8am and battery is already down to 69. I've made 3 minute long or so calls, missed about 4 calls and sent/received about 6 texts. No browsing or anything else. So I can't say that my battery seems any better...still seems like its draining faster than any other phone I've ever had.

Do you have syncing on?
What about GPS and other features that you don't need running?

I have auto-sync on but it doesn't show that it has synced since 11pm last night. And no I do not have the GPS on...as far as I know. I've never turned it on to begin with. Come to think of it, not even sure I know where it is to do that option. Wireless controls?

Nevermind...have it disabled but I do have "use wireless networks" enabled.

I got it too, but does anyone know the spec sheet for the fixes?

It would be nice if we know what actually got fixed.

seriously... i want to see an official release sheet. just like any other "real" company when releasing an update, they TELL you what's being updated. for all we know it's a placebo update to fool us thinking things are better...

Yeah, you mean like Apple's release notes? "Bug fixes and other improvements" is all you get from them!

Turn that off. If it's "use wireless networks for location" then you don't want that on. Eats up battery life. I've turned this off and noticed a BIG difference in battery charge span, and I'm not even running RC29 update yet...

Let us know what your results are.

chuckreynolds

yeah i've had some complaints about the battery... now trying 3g on with "use wireless networks for location" off... see how that goes...

Still waiting for the RC29 update in Az myself... le sigh

*edit
And yes detailed release notes would be much appreciated

Man, thank you for posting this. I have been racking my brain for all of today wondering why my computers wouldn't detect my G1's SD card. Ugh.

Not sure if this works, since I don't have a G1 myself, but for those who want to risk it (seriously, do this at your own risk.)

You can download the update from here: https://android.clients.google.com/updates/signed-kila-ota-115247-prereq.TC4-RC19+RC28.zip If it throws up a "503 Server Error", refresh the page.

Rename it to just update.zip, and put it in the root of your SD card. Then reboot the phone while holding down Home and Power, hit Alt+L, then Alt+S.

Got this from xda-developers (this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439733&page=5), about midway down the page), so I don't know if it works. The people there say it does, though.

No update yet.

In central florida. Maybe Google is waiting to update the swing states. If Florida votes for Barack, we get update, if not, no update

Google's CEO is a Barack supporter. Makes for a good conspiracy theory:-)

is your GPS turned on?

I was under the impression that the GPS radio would not turn itself on unless an application required it to. In which case, the drain would only be high if an app like Google Maps is running. I'm basing this guess on the fact that I do not see the GPS connection icon in the notification bar unless an application calls for data from the GPS radio.

Can someone confirm this?

Tested and this works. I've updated my G1 to RC29 halfway across the world from where most of you guys are.

i did the manual update and it works. just make sure u use an sd card other than the one the G1 is supplied with. ive also noticed improved battery life & performance. ive also noticed u get better battery life if u run it all the way down till ur phone can not turn on and charge it while its off with the usb cable. it only makes sense if there is a sync chip in the phone for the battery. charging with the phone on, battery power is being used at the same time which throws the sync off.

Never thought of trying that. Does anyone have a battery uptime app for the G1 so we can measure battery performance before and after?
