Ever since the T-Mobile G1 launch, Apple and Google have gotten into bed together to bring more Google features to the iPhone. The tech titans are also collaborating on pushing for equality of same-sex marriages.http://www.fastcompany.com/news/2008/10/27-apple-google-iphone-gay-marriage.html?digg=rules
the article is about how google and apple are donating money to promote same sex marriage . but it also talks a little about how google and apple are working really close together to create many more apps to make the iphone better
wtf is going on here?
you release an OS that is im competition with another OS and you work with the other team member to make them better?
this is some BS really . **** google
here are some quotes
In the midst of Google’s Android mobile phone rollout, the company seems to be in lockstep with its new competitor, iPhone-maker Apple. The companies have been collaborating to get more Google features on the iPhone than ever before,
Apple clearly worked closely with Google to expand the Maps application, which now includes full-screen Street View in addition to the existing map and satellite views. The driving directions function now also includes options for pedestrian and public transit directions, subsuming detailed maps of several cities’ entire subway systems in the process.
Google has also released a new Google Earth application for the iPhone, available through iTunes, that brings the beloved mind-blowing software down to palm-sized (albeit somewhat WiFi-reliant) scale.

I don't think it's wrong that Google is making apps for the iPhone. One reason that they could roll out stuff on the iphone before android is that iPhones been out longer and is more stable. But that doesn't mean they'll neglect the android.
I think one day android will be bigger than the iphone, but not yet. It would be foolish for Google to completely ignore iphone people (money).
Google offers a lot for free. They need to get paid some how.

a product being out for a longer period of time is one of the worst arguments you can use
how can you release a highly anticipated OS and a week later release google earth on another platform that is competing with YOUR OS
it's not like they created google earth for the iphone in one week, they must have spent MONTHS on it . why couldn't they apply it to the android platform?
i hope they're just "keeping their enemies closer" . you know what happened with microsoft and apple haha

microsoft makes software for macs
apple makes software for windows
stuff like this is nothing new, it's just business. google is in the information business and the more information they control, the better it is for them. it's not like apple is gonna suddenly switch iphones to run android or something. the best google can do is to have their apps running on them.
I love them both, and I have them both.
Competition makes us consumers all winners, everything will be cheaper and apps would be insane and unheard off.

The real problem is that google earth is free on the iphone. So they could have pulled all the people working on the google earth iphone project and put them on android to make it a complete and stable OS with the virtual keyboard, A2DP, mms picture saving, etc by launch.

that's what i'm saying
it's not like they worked on google earth within a week . it must have taken months of hard work . why couldn't they apply it to their own OS?
i guess the G1 hardware lacks the processor speeds

Thats not it at all. The g1 i believe has fairly equal stats to the iphone.(im just BSing that, i have no clue, but i would assume they wouldnt release somethign worse to compete)

You know what I think is happening here? Google has been doing all this stuff for Apple, google earth and everything on iphone to get Apple on their side on the same sex marriage issue. It just seems unusual for Apple to take a political stance like this imo.
Whatever the case, this whole situation pisses me off. Maybe I outta get a Windows Mobile phone just to spite both these gay companies.

@astevezimm I think it's pretty unreasonable to get angry at a company for supporting equal rights for minorities.

I'll trade google earth for support for other people's rights lol. :D:D

Have you ever heard the expression, "Keep your friends close, keep your enemy's closer"

Android isn't in competition with the iPhone. For one, that is comparing an open source operating system to an in-house hardware/OS combo production. They can't be competing if Android is FREE. That's like saying Linux is in competition with Windows; while they both are operating systems they are not in competition because noone makes money off of Linux(for 99% of the distributions). Even Microsoft and Apple work together when they are technically "competing" with each other. No, Microsoft and Apple don't directly build projects together but beyond building their own software for the other OS, the two companies actually own stock in one another. There are plenty of computers, computer users, and needs in the market without them trying to kill the other one off. Google has plenty of brilliant employees; if they really fealt the urgent need to move employees of of other projects to work on Android they could have. The fact that a small team worked on porting Google maps to the iPhone doesn't mean they gave up possible work hours for Android.
As a side note, there is absolutely no reason, other than the fact that the OP's article is talking about their support of gay marriage, for that topic to even be a part of the discussion of cooperation between the two companies. Its not some evil conspiracy between Google and Apple to build a relationship between the two companies so they can legalize gay marriage. I'll go ahead and preemtively say that if this is going to become a debate for/against gay marriage than a new topic should be made for that one.

who cares, do your research on google's mission and then criticize them... you're saying the os isn't stable? windows is just as stable and they've been in business since the 80's, same with osx on the iphone, i've had just as many crashes on both the 1st gen and iphone3g... a2dp? someone else can write the protocol/kernels... mms? someone else can write the software...
google earth is free, android is free, if they put priority on whatever they want on free products, they have the FREEDOM to do so... plus i highly doubt the software devs that worked on getting google earth to the iphone platform are the same people... experts at osx and experts at android doing everything? could be possible, but highly unlikely...

tell me, how does the iphone's specs blow the htc dream/t-mobile g1 out of the water.... the fact that its scalable to 700 but never runs above 528mhz, the core run speed of the new qualcomm DUAL CORE processor? please, do some benchmarks and tell me you can back up your information... i have all three phones, macs, pcs, computers running ubuntu, and other crap you probably haven't heard of and i know your statements are biased and ungrounded...
i haven't done extensive research into the matter, so feel free to blow my mind, i could very well and easily be wrong... i have my dislikes about the g1 too, but i don't trash talk a company that is making ground breaking changes in the technology world...
