View Full Version : MMS messaging issue

Hello everyone,
I just received my G1 on Monday and I really like it a lot. I came from CricKet with a Motorola Slvr. I'd say the only thing I miss was the price (unlimited talk, text, messaging and web for $45/month). But I'm willing to pay a little more because I really like this phone and T-Mobile seems to treat its customers pretty well.
I am having an issue with MMS messaging. One of my friends (who is on AT&T with a Razr if that matters) tries to send me a picture (several times now) and nothing ever gets through. It's as if they never messaged me at all (no errors or links to view it online). When I send them a picture, they receive the message but the picture is not in the body. They have to view it seperately (not an issue for them but possibly related to the problem).
I don't think the problem is on their end because everything worked just fine when I had my old phone on CricKet (we could both send and receive MMS normally). I have been able to send myself MMS messages without any problems and I was able to receive a message from the CS rep as well.
Does anyone know what might be wrong? I would appreciate any ideas you may have. Thank you.
P.S. Why do the reps always differentiate turning your phone off and on and pulling the battery? Is there an actual difference in what happens? Just something I never understood.

My answer to you is, the phone is faulty and sucks. It doesn't work out of the box and lacks basic functionality. Same thing happens to my brother's phone. I love the G1 but hate how it works.

I kind of doubt that it's the phone because everything else seems to work (data connection is fine, outgoing MMS is fine, SMS both ways is fine), but I haven't been able to rule it out yet...:( They did say that I'm still within my buyers remorse period and could exchange the phone if I wanted. Do you think another G1 would make a difference? I don't actually want anything else.

Honestly no. T-Mobile's network is fine. Rarely do/have I ever experience any outages on my Sidekick LX. They will ask you where you live and your zip code to see if there are any outages, and of course there won't be. I don't know if it's the OS or the hardware or a mixture but you aren't the only one, nor is my brother. Endless topics describe this problem.
I was not receiving MMS either. I changed from ATT (where I received them fine) and when I got the G1/TMO, they didn't work.
I did, however, get it to work.
First try to send a mms to your own phone number. If you are like me, it didn't work.
In your TMo account (online) goto myServices->Album. There shouldn't be any pictures there. Take a picture and send the picture (Via MMS) to 222. Relativly shortly, you should see it there (might need to refresh/rego there, whatever)
Now try to send yourself a multimedia picture again. It should work now.
If it still doesn't work, PM me. I've gotten a few people to send me a MMS, but I wouldn't mind further confirmation.

I tried sending a picture to my online album. That worked fine.
I then sent one from my online album to myself. That also worked, although when I received it, it had a play button on top of the picture and when I clicked it, it showed the picture then the message.
Any other ideas?

For your PS question. For most smart phones, the power button only puts the phone into a standby state. The battery pull completely reboots the phone. It is the fix for almost all common problems on BlackBerrys, I pretty sure that it will be the same for the G1. Smart phones are essentially mini computers.

I just posted a new thread about not being able to send a pic to Nokia phones. I can receive them but when I send them it says "no data available." It works fine when I send one to myself, and I also sent one to a blackberry and it came out fine. Anybody had this problem?

I did exactly this and now everyone can get my mms mesages.. god look man
Kinda worked for me.
Couldn't send/receive to anyone, including myself, so followed
instructions:
Sent pic to My Album: Failed!
Check net connection: Offline. Enable/Disable Airplane mode.
Sent pic to My Album: Worked!
Sent pic to myself: Worked!
Sent pic to Verizon: Worked!
Receive pic from Verizon: Failed! Doh!
Haven't tried other carriers, but at least it's a step forward!

i canceled my data plan and so my mms messaging is not working?
do you think having a data plan affects the sending?
I have sent MMS in the past with non-data phones (Razr), but I think the G1 might use it. When my MMS failed, I checked my data connection and it wasn't working. When I disconnected/reconnected to data, I could send a MMS.

Cant get any pics to send or download. I have the E with up/down arrows lighting up but the clock stays by the envelope and never sends to 222. Same with a download, doesnt work

Did you set up your album on the T-Mobile site? I had to click through an EULA and set it up before I could send to it.
Sorry to double post, but I finally got the Verizon MMS! It took a few hours, but I got it! Gonna test other carriers tonight...

Mine broken again. I can send to My Album and to myself, but can't send to anyone. I can receive MMS still.

Fare,
Just wanted to say thanks for the fix. Worked like a charm.
