Hey

Well I got my G1 yesterday and was extremely psyched. I absolutely love the thing, and all my friends today were just awed by it. Even several of my iBrainwashed people exclaimed that they wanted to trade :). No way!

Anyways, I just have one issue that I hope can be resolved. I have a small 'G' on my notification bar - at first I thought it was 3G service but after further investigation (Settings) I found out that it was only GPRS - the slowest out of the three. T-Mobile's website shows that I live in a solid (4 bar) EDGE network.

Do I have to enable EDGE anywhere, or is there something wrong with my Data plan?

Thanks.

how are you paying 25 for GPRS?

a)have you tried rebooting the phone or a batterypull?
b)maybe edge is down in your area. i had it go out for 2 days when i had my BB.

Even T-Mobile Rep stated SIM Card should not affect Data Connections some of the members managed to have connection issue fixed after replacing the SIM Card. For instance, if you were with T-Mobile since few years ago, SIM Card may be an issue but not necessarily.

T-Mobile Data coverage map IS NOT ACCURATE 100%. I have confirmed this with T-Mobile as I am located in 3G area but my apt does not have the 3G connection but EDGE. Once outside 100 feet away from my building I get solid 3G and fragmentary 3G connection right outside of my building.

Therefore, I suggest you call 611 and inquire about it so they can troubleshoot the phone and service you have. It may happen your subscription for Internet did not kick in yet from the temporary BlackBerry connection everyone got to set their G1 services up.

I would recommend doing a speed test to determine how fast your connection is. The icon for your data connection is not always accurate. There have been plenty of devices that were actually getting an EDGE connection but displaying a G for GPRS. The HTC P3600 aka HTC Trinity did this when I first had it. After a ROM upgrade came out, the issue was gone. Just something to consider.
