View Full Version : WTF Internet all of sudden stopped working

Well I haven't used the Internet all day bc I don't get signal in my school. Anyways when I got outta of school I was walking to my car. I had a full signal and the E next to the signal bar . But the page wouldn't load or I couldn't get to the app market . So I thought it was just a bad spot but no I tried it again on the way home and still no internet . So I just got home I always get full signal and it always work in my house but not this time . Yes everything Is on . Everything was working fine yesterday then all of sudden it stops working WTF .I just turned wifi on and that is working just not edge .So why is this happening? Is my phone even tho it worked fine yesterday . I restarted it but nothing . Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I was fine yesterday but I can't seem to be able to use the net, IM or even check the App store today.

I'm glad I'm not alone bc I thought it was my phone. If i'm not the only one then it must have something to do with the servers.

Check your plan online to make sure you have the g1 data on your account. There are also reports of 3G network outages in NYC and the Orlando area. T-mobile confirmed that Greater Orlando is definately a network problem.

Yup, I'm having the same problem, no internet, no app store. I just assumed they were updating the service due to the security flaw. But I have not received the update yet either, I wonder if this is part of the problem.

Theres already a few threads on this, basically what you need to do is call and check to make sure your data plan got added to your phone correctly, because everyone was on a free promo data plan till last night at midnight, some peoples accounts didn't automatically switch to their regular 25$/35$ a month plan. This happened to me this morning, took a couple hours for them to add the data plan back.

I got the unlimited plan so I should have it . If a lot of people experince the same problem then Ig must b the servers not the plan.

There is a thread already on this issue. I had the same problem this morning, call tmo and make sure that your data plan is on your acct. They advisd me that the free trial period for data is over so you must purchase plan in order to keep using it.....I added the $34.99 and 15 mins later my phone started working properly again

I had the same problem (Metro Detroit). I just got off the phone with CS and they had to setup the data plan again. She stated that the initial pre-orders were setup for free access for one week and some phones have not been changed to the regular plans. It then took about 15 minutes to catch up with the phone

The strange part was, I had no internet and could not access the Market but, I was getting texts and push gmail. For that reason they transfered me over to PDA\Smartphone support. Everything just started working while I was on the phone with them.

One last thing was just yesterday I started getting 3g access, but was told that probably had nothing to do with it.

What's the number for customer service? Did you call from your G1 or did you call from a land line. I've got the same problem.

I just called 611 from my G1. You dont have to be off of the device for them to add the data plan. It took about 15 mins after they added it for the browser and the market to become available again

Thanks. That did the trick. No data plan was the problem. Good to go now though.

yeah experienced the same thing; called tmo and my data was dropped also because we have 3 lines, and have the family plan unlimited texting; so the computer would not let the 35.00 plans on with the already 19.99 unlimited texting. But the rep worked it out, and should be up in a few hours. :)

I actually had to set up my g1 plan multiple times. At one point I had 70 dollars in messaging charges because they didn't add the plan correctly!

1st sign is that it says E instead of 3. Must be an outage. Cus i have the same issue.

i keep getting a network error when trying to get on the market....havent had trouble until today----any advice?

Call tmobile and make sure your data plan has been added correctly, alot of people seem to have been dropped from there data plan today, there are a few threads already started that go into detail as to why.

yup. this is how i found out it had been dropped from my account.

couldnt access market... i freaked out for a second... then remembered a few threads about "OMG INTERNETZ BE BROKED~!"... called 611, added it back, waited about 15 minutes... Data connection was back.

So I went to tmo to see what's up and well they r idiots there. She looked at my phone and she tried the Internet but it didn't work. So then she wanted to remove the back but didn't know how so she asked her partner . Then she remove the battery with the phone still on(WTF I heard that's bad for the phone) . Next she popped it back in and still no Internet . I yea she was on the phone most of the time . She then put my phone down on the counter but not gently(arr in my head). She didn't know what was wrong with the phone so she said she couldn't help and to call 611. So I called and they check to see what's wrong but nothing . Then she looked to see if there is any outtige in my area but nothing. So now she forward my call to tech support but it was busy. So now I'm typeing from my iPod waiting for the call. Do u think I should call back or wait?

When I was on the phone with tech support they told me that it looks like everyone (who was calling) that ordered the phone online the data plan that was chosen at check out did not stay and was removed. SO if you ordered your phone online and have no data access you need to call because your data plan has been removed from the system.

I have full signal and the little E is showing i have internet. Yet ever since 4:30 today I get nothing. Cant connect to anything. Anyone else having the same problem :(

Make sure your data plan with Tmobile is going... several had to "start" theirs.

My market wont load. It trys to load it but after like 20 secs I get a error which says's

ATTENTION
A network error has occured. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen.

The it says Retry and Cancel. Its been down for like 3 hours I tried shutting off my g1 and turning it back on but no dice. Any ideas?

Yeah it happened to me; turns out my data plan dropped off my acct, they added it back and now al is A - OK. Just call tmo.

My data has completely stopped working. I've rebooted the phone and no luck. I'm calling T-Mobile now to see if my data plan dropped off as well. :mad:

I just put it back on and its still down :(. Should of never hung up without testing first.

When I log into my account online, it shows I have the data plan, but it's not working. My data works fine when I put my SIM back into my MWG Zinc II.

just got off the phone with tmo it seems that today was the end of the free data so they said most peoples data has been shut off they said it should be on in a few hours

Thanks everyone that contribute to this forum.

How stupid is T-Mobile's explanation as to why this happened. 7 day free trial? I think that the G1 is having a negative effect on T-Mobile. I haven't had this many problems with service and support in the whole time that I have been with them. I actually had a CS rep with a bad attitude today, now that was a first. Maybe they just can't handle the volume created by the launch of the G1.

ok so I PAY for my data plan......and i still get cut off.........makes sense eh?..........things like this and other lil things bout the g1/tmo/android thing make me wanna return it sometimes............

I just had to call to add the data plan back on my account. Data started working again about 15 minutes after.

apparently everyone who gets the g1 has a period of time that the data plan is free. after that free period is over they cut off the data plan. When I pre-ordered the phone I selected the data plan. I have a pdf that shows I selected it. However, there was a "glitch" in the system if you ordered it online. To me it looks like the system removed the free one but didn't keep the g1 data plan you selected at checkout. If you have this problem and you ordered your phone online I highly suggest you contact tmo and check if the plan you selected is still there.

T-Mobile needs to get out in front of this one and notify users or just fix the problem. This could be a public relations nightmare for T-Mobile when it hits the press - "T-Mobile cuts off data without warning for Android pioneers" or something like that. The headlines write themselves, and the G1 is delicate enough in the market that they don't need it.

The smart ones came to this forum and found out what was going on, probably after spending an hour or so trying to debug their own phones. I thought I installed an app that broke the network. Most users are probably just cursing at their phones, and when they finally call T-Mo support, boy are they going to be pissed. Remember the press Apple got when they made activation hard on the first iPhones? This will be worse. Hook people on a cool data toy and then take it away without telling them why.

T-Mo, just turn on the data plans that people had to choose when they ordered their phones. You have about a day to get this right.

P.S. Love my G1! Especially now that it works again.
