Hi everyone, New guy here,. So, everyone i work with have Iphones,. they are cool, the interface, the apps, etc..

I Cant decide on the T-mobile G1 or the iphone,

the thing that really attracts me about the Iphone are the following,..

the music oriented apps, like

you can play a virtual piano,BASS<--i Play bass and guitar, synths, you name it..

MULTITOUCH!

And lastly GAMES.

Heres my next Dilemma.. SERVICE. I live up in the Poconos of PA and both T-mobile and ATT service is pretty bad,. at my home, I can only Roam even on my Verizon phone,. What I was thinking i could do is use a VOIP app to make calls from my house.

Monthly Plans.

Who is cheaper If I bought 1 phone for my Wife and 1 for me, with a "family plan"?
the Iphone will run me like $150 bucks a month for 2 phones im hearing! YIKES!

Thats about it, I love the looks of the G1, its just my style, I like the Trackball, keyboard, etc..

the apps WILL catch up, But will they surpass the quality and usefullness of the iphone?:

thanks for your help.

Lets go ahead and take the iPod Touch out of your selections.

The iPhone had a longer time to mature and that means more apps. If you don't have the patience of waiting for apps to be developed and released, especially waiting till next year since that's when the paid apps are going to start coming out for Android, then go with the iPhone. The stuff you mentioned, Android is capable of doing it, but knowing WHEN it will is the question. So if you have no patience, then basically just get the iPhone if you are deciding now.

The Android has a Skype app, I think, but never used it. So I don't know if you can use VOIP right now with it. The iPhone, I have no clue if it can. But with T-mobile you could use hotspot@home service. I don't know if the G1 is capable of doing it, but if it doesn't, then you can just buy a cheap phone from them that's able to and switch sim cards.

As for your last question, yes, but only time will tell.

To start off, i have both a 2g iphone, and a bronze G1.

ive had the iphone for a good 8 months now, bought it and unlocked it for tmobile. It is a fantastic phone, dont get me wrong.. but i was ready for some change.

The G1 is a great phone, and i am trying to like it.. but its hard. It needs a lot of work and apps and updates. A lot of the little things get to me. I'm sure that eventually, like everyone says, the phone will be up to par, if not better than the iphone, "eventually."

Now, let me try and answer your questions:
service: I have used my iphone extensively and the service is just fine. The G1 is also ok, nothing spectacular, but nothing horrible either.

Games: The iphone does have some fun games, With a jailbroken iphone before we could get a bunch of quirky and fun games. The G1 definiely has potential for fun games as it also has an accelerometer and such. Bonsai blast and pac-man are my favorites as of now.

Monthly plans:
The g1 has a 25/35 dollar a month data plan, ontop of your existing voice plan. So as i see you are using a verizon phone, i will assume that you are with verizon.
A two year contract with Tmobile for two g1's will be about $450 out the door. A decent family plan (1000 minutes shared) at two lines is 69.99 + 25 + 25 for each data plan. Then if you want unlimited texting it will be another 19.99. The total for this will be about 140-150, which is the same as the iphones.

Yep, to sum up.. Pretty much i like my G1 a lot. But the iphone for me just has a more sturdy (higher quality) feel to it. It has no creaks, and the software is more developed. this is not to say that i will be giving up my G1 though, i can't fathom the possibilities that await Android!

goodluck on your decision, i hope ive helped you (even if a little bit!)

guitar app for android is in the market

ps: if you do get the iphone, i think in a few short months you'll be wishing you went with the G1, it would have matured and apps will be a prenty.

ya, i have been thinking about how much more cooler apps android will have, since no one is "locked down" to apples nazi ways of control.

AT&T is known to have pricier plans, there is no denying that. I was debating the two and chose the G1. I am in love with it... everyone I show it too is in aww as well. I had to have a keyboard as I use my email a lot from the phone and do not like to type on a flat screen (I'm also 6'6'' with large hands)

I say buy the G1 AND the iPod Touch. That way you have the best of both worlds. That's what I'm probably going to be doing.

So 2 iphones come out to about $160 a month, but i have heard from G1 users that i can get a plan for 2 G1's for $90 a month, is this true?> if so the wife said no way to $160 a month but $90 a month would be SWEET and she would let that fly.

$25 for each phones data plan comes out to $50, and $59 for the basic family plan. so your looking at $110

why is the Ipod touch even on your list? thats not a phone? if your looking for just an internet tablet? But anyways its an easy decision to qwerty or not to qwerty..

I have a 2nd Generation Ipod touch, an when im at home I use it way way more than my g1. The web experience is so much better than the g1 and the app store, and itunes capabilities are so much for fluid. the android is just a bunch of black menus...kinda boring. The Youtube App on the Ipod touch is sooo much more beautiful as well. No pixelation and the sound is great. I like my g1, but overall its bland. Get both. And who actually uses their phone to replace their mp3 player?!

No, UMA is not supported with the G1. There have been threads going around asking if this is a hardware or software limitation... Cannot remember the final word.

Oh.. I also have an iTouch... It really is the best of both worlds.
