G1 Camera / Plastic?

Hey all, when the G1 is opened from the box is there plastic on the camera lens? It seems like when I pick it with my finger that my nail catches something - the pictures I take do not seem to be great. The camera is about the only thing I am not over the moon with on this phone. VERY impressed with HTC's work and Android.

Yeah the battery cover has a plastic layer over the lens..

I want to know more about this too! I plan on getting the Innocell 2600 Extended Life Battery which comes with a rubberized 5mm thicker battery cover which has NO secondary clear lens protector like the OEM cover has built in. This means dirt and such has a direct path to the lens under the battery cover. I'm wondering if there is enough protection for the lens and if I can clean the lens with a Q-tip with the battery cover removed. By no means do I think it's a dumb question ö
