I believe I found a small bug in the software for the messaging system.

I manually added a phone number into my phonebook and it automatically hyphenates the number for me. ex: 12345678901 becomes 1-234-567-8901

turns out when I receive txts from this phone mumber, it does not show up as the contact's name in the messaging program, instead it shows up as 12345678901.

has anyone else run into this bug?

No. Based on my experience, the hyphenation does not interfere with number recognition. The hyphenation is annoying and makes the contact list look inconsistent. It would be nice if they have an utility to either hyphenate everything or leave everything as they are. Regardless, both of my hyphenated and "natural" contacts get recognized no matter if it's a call or an SMS.

Try waiting a couple of minutes. Usually your phone updates accordingly.

Are you sure you're entering the area code as well?
