it's been a week since i got the G1. i guess being a 1st gen phone and where you came from plays an important factor rating this phone. i came from an N95 and a mature symbian platform. there's a lot to be desired but it's got very good potential and i like the way it's turning out. overall i'll rate it 4 stars simply because it is too premature to get a perfect score

I've had mine a week, coming from a 4-year BlackBerry binge, the latest was a Titanium Curve. I kept the Curve because I didn't know if I was going to make the switch full-time. I'm happy to say that since opening the G1 box I haven't touched my Curve and I have no intention of doing so, ever. Sure, the G1 is not perfect out of the gate. But I LOVE it. And I have every reason to believe that all remaining issues are going to be fixed and even surpassed in the near future.

If we are comparing my HTC wizard which was a -758 out of 5 to my experience with the G1 I'd have to say it is a 4.5 out of 5.
The ONLY thing I miss is:
Remote Desktop, I miss remoting into my Windows box whenever the hell I feel like it. SSH to my linux machine has been nice since that app came out but the lack of RDC is why I can not give it 100%.

Main concerns would be the resetting which I haven't had since the hard reset, the freezing which doesn't happen too often, and last was the battery which also seems to have gotten better, but then again im at work and not using it as much as I do in my free time so not quite sure on that, final result. 3.5 out of 5 Im sure with some firmware updates here and there i'll think otherwise, untill then.............

4 of 5. my biggest complaint that i can think of is the inability to save pictures from sms/mms

I absolutely love my G1. Fortunately, I haven't had many problems - never had it freeze up, OS runs fast (I have 21 apps installed right now but am going to delete a few of them - just testing some out) and my battery life has become much better over time. I have a few issues, of course, but I'm an optomistic person. I was expecting imperfection but the G1, for me, has exceeded my initial expectations. Coming from a Dash, I'll give it 4.5 stars. ;)

5 stars.
Amazing upgrade from my old phone.
Only complaint from me is AIM not staying connected an all.

I'm giving it a 4. The G1 is everything that I thought it would be and does live up to the hype. My only major gripe like everyone else is the battery life. It just sucks. My other complaint is a problem I'm having with my calendar. I have NEVER been able to open it, all I get is a black screen with the "force close or wait" prompt. Here's hoping that the RC29 will correct that for me.

I'd give it 2.5 out of 5. It's stable and neat, but still missing lots of features.
It does have lots of potential. As others have observed, there are fundamental features missing that even the crummiest phones have and have had for years.
There's some growing pains ahead, but they'll get sorted out. In the meantime, we're just going to have to hang on and wait for the improvements that are undoubtedly on the way.
Being on the bleeding edge is tough. I just hope development of the G1 doesn't get stalled in favor of development for rumored upcoming devices!

I gave it a 3... not even sure if that was too high of a rating. Battery life is intollerable with it now, my PSP looks like a god compaired to it especially considering it has UMD (at first, the batt was doing great.........). There isn't a single application on it that isn't bugged to hell, MMS is decent but lacking some basic features even my Moto Pebl had (copy/paste/save image). AIM is crap on it (biggest reason I was looking forward to it), keyboard is bleh, hardware is starting to get loose and sloppy after not even a week, it's crashed and self restarted countless times now, internal memory is way to low and I constantly run out... Honestly I'm starting to regret getting it. Sure a lot of it can be fixed, but the G1 itself is inherently flawed in hardware design. That being said... I love the screen, love the concept, and think android has serious potential. Unfortunatly, right now that potential hasn't been tapped at all. I'll give it to the end of my 14 days to see if the patch fixes some of the larger software issues and pray I can get my contract revoked so I can get off Tmo if it doesn't. In which case I'll switch to Verizon which has a much more stable network for data. Oh yea another issue (possibly with the G1 or Tmo, not sure which) is that the phone constantly swithces back and forth between edge/3G while sitting still, going no where. All the time. It's down right annoying, and I think is causing apps to loose connection all the time requiring manual 'refresh' which means exiting/reopening the app in most cases.

3 stars due to flimsy hardware and poor battery life.

5. If it were on a scale of 1 - 10 i'd give it a 9
I dunno where all of the battery talk is coming from. Im getting between 4-5 hours of rock solid use from this thing. watching videos, listening to music, talking on the phone, emails, surfing the net, etc..
After i broke my battery in (if thats possible) its been lasting the whole day.

Stereo Blutooth and Video Recording would make it a 10 of 10
Right now, 8 of 10.
Awww..screw it...10 of 10.
I mean if 10 were the best phone I've ever had, then this is it.
But if 10 were perfect...then 10 would include proper multimedia options.

4 from me. It's definitely the most useful phone I have ever had! My main concern is that it feels somewhat fragile to me.

i think it's a very capable phone, a lot of the apps in the market seem to be 'filler apps' but i have found a few that i can use daily...gMote is pretty effing cool!
