Hey I just canceled my pre-order which i ordered on October 13th and is on BACKORDER! The rep told me I would get it later than Nov 10th due to they had 30,000 made and sold 80,000 devices. That was the first time I have heard that from a rep so I decided to get one tomorrow. There are a lot of Walmarts around and I think I will be able to get one really anytime of day, in NJ. Hopefully tomarrow I will be posting here saying I got it. Also who else is thinking about making this decision.

Google does not want to make it's customers mad - and they seem to be on the good way to do so.

Good luck dealing with Walmart. It took me 2 days to even get them to know what this is. Don't believe me? Call up a Walmart connections center and ask them when they will be getting the G1's. Here's how your conversation wil go:
WMart - uhh hold on
(wait)
wmart - did you say T1
you - no G1
wmart - ok hold on
(wait)
wmart - we arent going to be carrying that
you - are you familiar with the G1?
wmart - is that a phone?
you - yes it's a tmobile phone
wmart - ohh, we should be getting those soon
you - are you saying specifically the g1, or are you getting tmobile phones
wmart - hold on
(wait)
wmart - we're not sure if we are getting the T1's in
you - *click*
I have had this conversation at least 6 times at different stores. The script above barely fluctuates.

Well we can thank T-Mobile for that. Regardless of that issue - Google would make customers mad because OS is the one that's not getting corrected updates. All they included in the update were not updates but modifications to something else (i.e. USB storage mount unmount option changed) - like that's some kind of update.
Update means Google issues new over the air update that improves battery life for at least 25-30% than what it is now - if not that, then recall on batteries and then give customers 1600mAh replacements - it is possible why not do it? They have enough money to go with it; fixes IM issues; adds more fun stuff to the existing system tools/options. That's what I call update.
PS. Now invisible shield is making my nerves dance - phone full of bubbles even I followed their instructions. Clock is ticking away - I still have time until November 3rd to make the final decision.

Then it wouldn't make much sense as too why they are paying so much for one over there, since they only getting em off of ebay...
As for this whole idea with wal-mart, I think its a "sure to sale all deal". I think androids/google predictionss along with htc and thier production etc, have been forecasted, whether they are under or over the forcast is grim... ( right now i bet theres alot of manufactured g1's in a warehouse)
I really think wal-mart is a saftey net, weather it was a plan c or a plan from the get go its just to make sure they can sell and com out on top.
Why so cheap? Well when you sell at wal-mart expect to make minimal profit yet, expect high volume. And also, isnt it worth it to google to make nominal profit rather than risking a bad market turnout and not even breaking even
