I recently purchased one of those cheap leather G1 case that I found out that the magnets in the case screw up the phone.
So i decided to purchase this case made for the G1 and because I have the Swiss Army backpack/laptop bag which is awesome. I never thought about it having magnetic closure.
My question is will this case screw up the phone because of its magnetic closure?

I will include a review and pics when the case comes in, this is why I posted here.

Good question, I am very interested in this case also but am a little worried since it has a magnetic enclosure, i have been reading a lot of threads that say people cases with magnet closures are messing with the internl compass. If you already have this case can you please post some pics with your phone in the case and or some other views of the case and your opinion on it so far.? Thanks;)

i received this case today...i tested the magnetic closure...im not a smart guy but i took a small piece of metal(screw) the magnetic closure attracts the screw but when i went to place inside the case normally with the cheap case it will push/pull the screw away like the cheap cases. the button on the flap is also not magnetic so it wont mess with anything. i am guesing because theres no attraction or repulsion to mess with the phone inside the case it should be good. my phone was suppose to be here today but somehow ups screwed up and its stuck somewhere else..not happy:mad:

The compass is quite sensitive, even the tiny magnet in my finger (http://feelingwaves.blogspot.com) effects it. I was worried that prolonged exposure to a close magnetic field would de-calibrate the device, so I looked into it.
While I'm not completely sure of the actual hardware, so this is just a best guess, (anyone know?) I assume it's a standalone IC like the Honeywell HMC6352. According to the data sheet (http://www.ssec.honeywell.com/magnetic/datasheets/HMC6352.pdf), the sensor can withstand fields up to 10,000 gauss without suffering permanent damage. This equates to the strength of a fairly large electromagnet. A "rare earth" magnet like those used in phone cases have a value in the ballpark of 2,000 gauss.
So, assuming it's the Honeywell compass or something very similar, a phone case with a magnetic closure will not hurt the compass.
Keep it away from MRI machines though. :)
EDIT: While the hardware itself should not be permanently damaged, exposure to a constant field seems to throw off the compass. Integrated compass manufacturers mention that this can be caused by other components in the phone retaining a residual polar magnetic field.
This is why "tapping" the phone may fix the problem, it demagnetizes the components with a small residual field.

So is the case good or no good? Anyone using this case right now?
