G1 doesn't seem to have option to add pause or wait after a phone number or may be I am not finding it?
If you press 'p' manually it will enter 7. If you do it in Gmail contacts the synced contact will have 'p' after the number but once you dial the number the 'p' will be dialed as 7... what happened? Did they forget about these standard phone features?
I am used to adding pause between the access number and pin number to use prepaid cards for international calls!

use a comma.. the more commas you use the longer it waits...

there is one hiccup though.. if your service has you enter "#" after the account number or something of that nature. the phone reads your set up as a ussd code. and errors out.

i need "#"'s after my account number and PIN number for my phone banking. So i cant do any phone banking, pretty irritating actually. Especially since the android browser also doesnt allow me to do online banking through my bank.

hmm.. commas huh?
thanks it works..
it goes silent after comma but does the work on the background I guess!
sorry to hear about your banking needs not working out for you! I don't need to enter '#' so I am in luck.
thanks again

To work around the # as the last character issue, I added another comma after my last # and that worked for me.

can I use ',' after every '#' in the number? I am running into these issues as well.
