iPhone vs. G1...

Hey all,

I started a blog site about a couple of weeks ago with all the code/blogs written by yours truly. I was previously an owner of a 1st generation iPhone and was extremely excited when I heard about the G1. Lo and behold, I picked a G1 up this weekend, and here's my blog relating to it:

I basically try and compare the iPhone to the G1, while posting the pros and cons of each phones.

Would like to hear about what you think about the review, and if there are any inaccuracies (I will edit them as quick as possible).

If you consider Windows Mobile open source, then Apple's iPhone is open source as well. Truth be told, they both provide API's, but neither provide the source code for the underlying operating system.

There are several reasons why this phone is better then the Iphone, as well its not just the reasons why this phone is better its more the reasons why this phone could be better. the fact that you could create whatever you want for this phone.

Yes through the SDK and my jailbroken iphone i can do the same, however i had to void the warranty on my iphone to do this.

I prefer my G1 to my iphone.. hAvent used my iphone since i got this phone.

I happened to thoroughly have enjoyed your review!

While I have played with the iPhone when I go into an Apple store, I've never owned one, or used one for any extended period of time.

My friends and family have shown my thiers, but, of course, they don't (for some reason) flip it over, and say... "check this out... the battery? It's permanantly fixed, so when it dies, unless I'm near a plug and can recharge it, my phone becomes a paperweight".... and they don't rave bout how it can't cut and paste...

You get what I mean. I see all the great things about it, but really don't hear the negatives.

And by the way, the G1 also has negatives... no headphone 3.5 jack, no wireless bluetooth stereo, etc.

Funny that this thread comes up when google just released google earth for the iphone...WTF! What about us G1 supporters! That's like me giving the keys to my new car to my ex while my wife drives the old. Yeah you've been down since day one but damn my ex still gives it up on the regular...LOL!

iPhone has gone trhough so many updates since it's release and the G1 is still on top...

You can't really judge yet, because the Iphone as been out for some time now and have made some really nice changes and upgrades. Where as the G1 is really still in the beta mode really.

But personally i'd lean more to the G1, Android is so much better then Iphone's OS.

The only thing wrong with this statement is that although the Iphone software has been out for a while, the G1 has had the iphone software to use as a model or make improvements. Therefore, becasue the g1 still has some querks even though it has had two years to get things right, is why some people dont think it lived up to the hype. Sure the 1.0 software for te iphone sucked but it was better then many other phones and changed the game. The G1 had a decent amount of time to make the ui smooth, but it still has some problems. SO you cant really make that argument.
