Does anybody else get this lovely little message...every-single-mother-****-time they try to send a text message?
I don't know if I am just too fast of a typist for the G1 or what, but this is getting ridiculously annoying. Like it's really angering me that I have to click "wait" every single time I send a text message. Without fail. Even when I wait an extra few seconds, as soon as I start typing, the first letter shows up and then nothing, long pause...and it's not responding. Sometimes I'm real lucky and get it twice, in the same message. How do you stop responding all the f'n time like that you dirty bastard Activity Messaging?
Ugh, anyways, thanks for letting me vent. Anybody else running into this? Know any way to make Activity Messaging better at playing with others?

what exactly are you doing? trying to use the app as it starts loading?
hmmmmm might sound like a bad thing for you, but you just might've given me a way to close apps. LOL!

How many text messages do you have on your device? I think this is a result of the Text Messaging app being horribly inefficient. I now have an SMS thread that is about 1000 messages long and I get this quite regularly. It was never a problem before. I also notice that the phone seems much slower in other areas too. HOWEVER, if I reboot and do not open the text messaging app, then everything is blazing fast UNTIL I do open the text messaging app.
I am REALLY looking forward to a new, more efficient text messaging app. I hope somebody releases a good one soon!!

This was it. I was talking to my boy this morning about it, and this was the first thing he asked me. I had a text message of ~700 messages, and as soon as I deleted it (which took quite a while, and I had to click the "wait" button like 5 times at least) then everything works fine.
My girl has an iPhone and has all ~700 of those messages, plus other texts on it from before I had the G1 and doesn't have any problems. Definitely a -1 for the G1. ):

i had 928 text messages, ( was tryn to get to 1000) but i was about to smash the phone earlier, so after hitting wait 10 times, i deleted the thread and phones back up to speed... so basically it slows down the phone when it has to store so many text's

not sure if i got lucky, but i was trying to delete a long thread got wait or force close and i hit wait. then got tired of waiting so hit home button, reopened text and the thread was gone.
somebody else give it a try if your deleting threads see if its quicker then actually waiting

The iPhone used to lag too until an update archived the old texts.
We just need the same thing on the G1.

There is a new app on the market to archive text messages (I forget what it's called). Give it a try!! :-)

i found that app earlier today, and there was a note on there that a new version was added today i believe, and one of the fixed issues was auto-creation of the folder in which is stores the archives.
i downloaded it and it worked fine for me. only problem is i wish it saved as html.
and if the developer of that app happens to be on this forum, it would be awesome to have an option to open one of the xml archives and display it on the phone as it would display in the SMS client.

i have the exact same problem since i got my phone on black friday. i keep getting the activity messaging error EVERY single time i text. there have been some days where i dont get this error but days where i get it everytime too. ive asked many of my friends that has the G1 as well and none of them ever had the same error.
i even started to use another app ChompSMS for texting and i still get the same error "Sorry! Activity SMS (in application chompSMS) is not responding."
im hoping an update will fix this problem, if not im calling customer service

i get this message all the time for a variety of apps.
i want to love this phone but then behavior like this makes it unusable.
i tried chompsms, but no good
i delete my text threads on a regular basis
now the phone has taken to freezing when the screen goes to sleep, and the only way to get it back is to remove the battery.
stuff like this makes it hard for me to recommend this device.

That sounds like a single device fault...I've never had that happen...

You have to keep your message counts low or the phone will freeze at the moment.

Yeah, the more messages the longer the wait -- and if it exceeds a threshold then you'll get that pop up.
So, every few weeks make sure you clean out all your length text message threads. I'm surprised the settings don't have an auto delete feature built in like most phones. App idea?
Hey i had the same problem...like i had loads of msgs and i had this rele long thread between me and my frend and it ws lyk 3003 msgs long..
SOLUTION: you have to delete the long threads so the you stopp seein tha msg...thas what i jus did and i no longer see that stupid anoyin message

I get this message ONLY when deleting threads from my Hero. I tend to hit force close because waiting takes forever.
