POP3 Accounts ... WTF?!?

Is anyone else having trouble w/ pop3 accounts? I use comcast and some other specific accounts for business (not exchange) and am barely getting ANY emails.

I am NOT interested in forwarding these accounts to gmail so i get the email. That's a USELESS sol'n.

Is this just a prob with Android?

It's a common issue and is expected to be fixed with OTA update.

I am managing to get the emails if I check them but they are not coming automatically even though they are supposed to check every 10 minutes. The funny thing is that the first day it worked fine.

the pop email is bad for me too it takes forever to load my email and im stuck looking at the ugly folders that i dont care to see in the first place such as sent, drafts saved ims (which is great in the longrun because everyone wants a file explorer), i would like to just look at my email when i want to, this will change hopefully soon

What problems exactly are you having? I noticed I'm not getting any notifications on my POP3 account, and when I came on here to see if anyone else was having this problem, I saw that this is being addressed in the first OTA that is supposed to be rolling out any time now. So, in that case, yes, it is a problem with Android, I guess. Are you actually missing emails that are showing up elsewhere?

i have my comcast emails go to my outlook at home. b/f buying the G1, the emails also went to my HTC Dash (t-mobile) w/out any probs.

I have several urls (for different businesses with different pop3 accounts.

none are working.

i verified this 2 ways:

1. had friends send emails, go nothing

2. checked the outlook at home and the emails were present outlook.

any idea when this update may happen? i only switched from teh dash to the g1 b/c i was told -- repeatedly -- that pop3 accounts work fine.

i just bought the g1 yesterday, have rec'd one email (out of 35) on the phone. nothing else.

i've been able to SEND emails w/out incident.

HELP!! The phone is really cool, but i need some functionality. Again, i'm not looking exchange capabilities.

Unfortunately, unless I've missed some newer info, we don't know specifically when the updates will happen. The doc that was written about it was kinda witty and humorous, and just said "wait" and "wait a little longer" and "don't worry, it will come" and stuff like that. Your problems don't seem to be the kind addressed in this update, though. It would sound like your settings are messed somewhere, if not for the fact that you said you have gotten 1 email?

Are you sure one of your other devices/computer isn't pulling them off the server? If you want to check POP3 accounts on mupliple machines, you MUST have them ALL set to "leave a copy on server". The default is for a device to take them off a server, and once that happens, you can never check/receive that email anywhere else...

could i also have a lemon phone? meaning, should i try exchanging the phone with another?

Yeah I been having the same POP3 issues too. I brought this up in my review. Its a known issue and there should be an update in time. If your email also supports IMAP switch as a work around for now.

What I would suggest you do is if your Email provider has the option to forward emails to another email account, I would set it up to forward a copy of incoming emails to your Gmail account. that way your email will be pushed to your gmail account. I have Cox email and can't seem to get the pop3 to work either. So I went into my Cox email account and set it up to forward a copy of all email to my gmail account. now when i get a message sent to my cox email address I get it on my n7csi911@gmail.com account and it is pushed so I get it pretty quick. I like it better this way anyways because i get my email much faster. :)

I was using the Dash before the G1. When I would set-up a pop3 account
these were the options.
ex:
username:
password:
server:

On the G1 there is no field for the server. The way I got it to work was I did this

server/username
password

An easier way is to set up collection on your gmail account, gmail/setting/accounts/get mail from other accounts and check the box that says Reply from the same address the message was sent to.

Works like a charm....

I've got 3 POP3 accounts setup from 3 different providers - Nuvox, Road Runner, and our company's own (non-M$ exchange) server. I have to deal with lotsa mail but I've had no problems sending or receiving from any of the accounts.

So it sounds like POP3 troubles are probably related to lack of communication with only certain server software. I must be fortunate that I don't have to deal with a "wrong" email server. Or, at least for some users, it could still be simply incorrect setup of some kind. Sorry I can't offer any specific solution for those having trouble. Maybe go over your setups again just to be sure. Sometimes simple mistakes go unnoticed.

i'm starting to wonder if i just have a lemon. i contacted comcast this a.m. and rec'd dif. server ports (they've rec'd several calls in chgo area about the issue w/ g1).

comcast sent a test email and it worked instantly. then, again nothing.

plus, i keep getting connection issues. it never stays connected. i'm in an area with strong 3g, wifi, etc., connections.

again, could i just have a crap version of the phone/os for some reason?

I have charter and whenever I try to setup my pop account for them I'm get a 421 can not connect to server error. Called t-mobile, and they could not figure it out either.

I have ny pop email sent to my gmail account with the "Reply from the same address the message was sent to" checked. I just noticed that although when I hit reply on my phone the message shows as being sent from the pop address, when that person gets it it is actually from the gmail address. Anyone else seeing this?

It's not auto-downloading the emails and whenever I try to refresh, it says "connection error." But I know there are emails there because they are downloading to the mail client on my macbook. I tried resetting it, but nothing. I'm going to try removing and re-adding the account to see if that makes a difference.

Yeah I get the "connection error" every now and then, but eventually it connects.

I think the OTA is suppose to fix the pull on e-mails and the notification.

But I got the update, and it didn't fix this issue. This is really the only glaring issue have with the phone. Gmail gets unfair good treatment here, with the notifications. But I have yet to get a single notification, ever, from my POP3 account. I was waiting for the update for this very reason, because I had read that list, but now that I have the update, no such luck. Anyone?

This fixed my problem. Thanks man! HTC on the phone just sat there for an hour pulling things out of nowhere that didn't work.

If you use outlook/entourage go into your account settings, edit account, options, and click to keep mail on server... that way the phone still picks it up...
