I'm wondering if anyone here went from an iPhone to a G1? I personally have the original iPhone and was wondering if its a good idea to switch to the G1, whats your guy's opinion on converting? Good, bad idea? I just don't want to be dissapointed when I get the G1, and start wanting the iPhone back, ha.

i'd wait til more things are released, because as of now you will be dissappointed if you're a fan of the iphone... if your have lackluster feelings about the iphone, then by all means make the jump...
lots of kinks and issues that people are bringing up, and in the months to come they surely will be resolved, most of them at least...

Hmm, I see. The only things really making me hesitant about getting the G1 is the not so attractive look, lack of a virtual keyboard (no one hand texting), and I heard that the battery life was also not as great as expected? I mean I'm used to ****ty battery with the iPhone, but I was hoping to get an upgrade from that.

I've made the jump from iPhone, and I'm happy I did. There are good and bad sides:
Good:
Push e-mail actually works when not on AT&T. My MobileMe account never actually gave me push e-mail to the iPhone. The G1 works perfectly, not a hitch. The music player is not nearly as full-featured as the iPhone, but it lets me listen to my tunes walking from the parking garage into work...which is all I need. Also, the connectivity of GTalk to my friends is amazing...and it works in the background, which is more than I can say for the iPhone.
Bad:
Video support is lack-luster with the current video player. All of my videos are .mp4 encoded with h264, and they will not play. The audio track is there, but scrambled video. I haven't investigated further into the matter, as it's a non-issue for me at this point. The connectivity of the G1 far outweighs its shortcomings.

the virtual keyboard will be released q1 of 2009, and reportedly people are getting better and better battery life from what you may have read on this forum thus far...
i on the other hand have had both the iPhone and iPhone 3g, as well as having a g1, and would not go back... but partly is on principle and apples environment they bring to the customers: completely closed...

yes i did as well iphone to g1. just to keep it simple. its different and takes some time gettin use to. overall its good enough for me not to go back to the iphone. it has some ups and downs on both. but not that big of a deal to me.

Yup, the android platform and possibilities is the main reason I'm making the switch. Everyone I know is calling me crazy for even thinking about switching from the iPhone, but it really seems like the right choice. Found someone to buy my phone for $300 tomorrow. Hope I don't regret it.

Go to your local T-Mobile store, they might have a demo phone. I went into one and got to play with one for quite a while =D

Yup, went there today and played with it for about 5 minutes. I liked it for the most part, but didn't have time to get into the details.

I have both the G1 and the iPhone 3G and it would be a tough call to only pick one. Right now the android platform is new, and just like the iPhone when it first came out, people will complain all day long. The G1 has that more "customizable" feel, but the iPhone has over 4,000 apps avaiable. If your in a 3G area I say go for the G1, if you want better media than go with the iPhone.
I will be doing a G1 vs iPhone post on my blog soon, its the link in my sig, so keep an eye out. I'll have pics and the whole 9.
