i really hate this camera. the time it takes to take a pic really makes the pic unclear.
my old rizr had a 2 megapixel and it took fairly decent pics.
I now have a 3 megapixel which is supposed to be an upgrade. unfortunately is not the case.
my roommate has an iphone and i have to say his pics are great.
Do you think this can be fixed?

its camera button is two stage, so press it slightly for the first stage to autofocus... if you have a fairly steady hand, wait for the autofocus, then hit the two stage, it takes pictures wonderfully

Yeah I must agree the camera is slow and we don't have all that much control on the settings of the picture. I must say this camera is only good for still pics because anything that is slighty in motions is always blurry.

I love the camera on this phone. It's not the best and its not the worst. :)

this is a pic with the G1.. im satisfied with the quality.. i do wish it had zoom & i do have to agree that the pics mess up with slight movement, i usually use phone cameras just for still pics so im good with this camera.

I agree with the OP. My iPhone's camera is much better than the G1's. The main problem I have with my G1 camera is every picture has a bluish tint to it. Doesn't look anything like any of the pics I've seen from people posting their camera pics.
Sounds like a defective camera. I haven't seen a bluish tint in any of the photos posted from other G1s.
The G1 just has a very very slow camera, so you have to hold it still. After the shutter sound you still have to hold it still for around a second.
I forgot where I read it but I heard you can push the button halfway for it to focus and after focused then release and it will still take the picture, making it a lot easier to hold still than having to press it all the way. Not sure if this works but I think I read it somewhere but I can't find where I read it. Don't kill me if this doesn't work, I just read it somewhere.

No I'm not saying the same thing. I'm saying holding halfway to autofocus then releasing the button rather than clicking it all the way. If this was possible it would be a lot easier to hold steady because when you click the button you might move the phone because you have to apply pressure, while if you release it, it doesn't move the phone. Again I'm not sure if that is possible but I read a thread somewhere about this. Might have been for another phone though.

my pics r always blurry for some reason. And one time I got a little green dot but that was once and I never got it again . So what's up with the green dot? My moto rokr took better pics and that was a 2mp cam and it even recorded like normal phones with cams.

Have you ever used autofocus cameras? The center has to have heavy contrast for autofocus to work. If the center of the photo has all the same color the camera won't be able to autofocus. See if that helps the green dot show up. Also read the other posts about holding the button halfway and waiting for it to autofocus (shows the green dot) then taking the picture.

You can also press the trackball down and it will take a picture. It speeds up the process.

The camera is junk. No matter how you slice it. It is a two stage camera, press and hold until the autofocus locks, look for green light, then fully depress.
The problem, this entire process takes about 6 seconds. The worst part is the shutter lag at the end from when focus is gained until you actually hear the shutter. Most images will come out very blurry.
Unless you are perfectly still, shooting a non moving object, in perfect light and have some luck----you might get a good picture.
It is not so much technique as it is this camera really is junk.
