I looked for a thread on this topic, and couldn't find one (surprisingly), so here I go . . .

How many others have noticed that the G1 gets really good 2G reception? I have service in some places that I had assumed were cellular black holes for Tmobile, AT&T, and Verizon even. Compared to by Blackberries (curve and pearl) I had over the past 18 months, this G1 gets awesome reception. I expected it to be crap after some of the early reviews but I wonder, were they (the reviewers) just in weak 3G areas? I'm not in a 3G area at all--I live in a semi-rural area and unlike my UMA Curve, this G1 hasn't dropped a call yet.

Anyone else getting unexpectedly awesome reception?

no, htc has set the bar for reception for me... nokia still beats out everybody in the reception department with their overseas phones at least, but its to be expected from me... i've used 8 different htc devices, all get the same great reception and great speakerphone on them

Ya, I noticed great 2g reception as well. I used to get no service in my apartment (outside of UMA) with my Curve. With the G1 I get a pretty decent 2 bars.

my reception is about the same as my old sidekick BUT webpages seem to load super fast on 2g with the G1..

Reception is easily better than the Dash I was carrying previously.

tikitroll, you feeling ok? You didn't slam the G1 in your post.

Yeah the g1 gets better reception for me too.. I really noticed it at work, cause I can barely get a signal with my wing, but the g1 is getting around 2 to 3 bars almost all the time at work.. when it loses signal it comes back real fast.

I have noticed this also, Service in my basement was always iffy. I had the MDA, Wing and a RAZR and the reception sucked down here. I would have to sit in the most awkward of poses to keep a call from dropping. With the G1 i don't have to be as flexible =)

I get better reception too... I have full bars where on my blackberry curve..it would have been only 2 bars....I have also noticed that 2G is faster when I do a speed test..I was getting around 110kbps with my Curve but with the G1 it is around 190kbps..

Used to never get reception in NYC subway stations on my other phones (both with t-mobile), now it seems to work without fail. I even get 3G down there sometimes.

Brains- chillax mi amigo- im a troll because I speak frankly about the G1? There's plenty of good stuff about it- definitely more than bad, but that goes without saying- otherwise it would be on a UPS truck back to Tmob and I wouldnt be wasting my time posting here :P

But if people didn't locate and post issues, then they wouldnt get addressed.

whats wrong with shooting for the gold?

Here in Miami I get barely any reception on my G1. My blackberry Pearl had great reception everywhere, but the G1 barely breaks 3 bars even when outside. I need to wander around my place to get reception and use the phone.
