I know there is a MILLION and one threads on this. But here is what is happening to me.

I took phone off charger at 100% full on Saturday morning around 8 am. Texted all day, surfed the net thru my wifi, make a few phone calls. I had 3g on and was surfing a ton of sites to find a halloween costume we were looking for and also using google maps to get us there for about 2 hours. Then 3g back off and running on edge. Texted some more (I text alllll day) and made a few more phone calls. Took a few picture messages and sent them. at 4 am Sunday morning when we got home from the party i STILL had 37% battery!

Now, why is everyone complaining about battery life?

Let me ask you this, When you 1st got your phone how long did you charge it for before using it? Reason why im asking is because once again it brings us back to "Depending on how long you charge your battery when you take your phone out of the box can effect your battery's life in the long run." that's is why i asked. See when i 1st got my phone i charged it for about 3 hours before using it, Because i was dieing to play with it. And now, I have to charge my phone ever 4-5 hours cause the battery dies out quickly.

because the people with the super awesome batteries like your self are the rare exception. I can't complain about mine it lasts all day with the features on I use but some people are having horrible problems with the batteries. It seems battery life is a case by case situation not there all awsome or they all suck mines somewhere in the middle.

Because there are people who can't manage the features correctly. Like turning wifi off when not needed and etc. I'm finally going to test mine tomorrow when I go to school, so hopefully I have a good experience.

My battery life impressed me last night. Went to a theme park that's three hours away, spent five hours there, and still had ~25% battery left when I got home. Lots of calls meeting up with friends, texting, and a fair bit of data and game usage as there were LINES! However I did already take some precautions to maximize my battery life. I imagine the biggest boost being that I disabled autosyncing, as while push gmail is downright sexy, having the data connection come on every email must be a major drain. On top of that I turned off 3G support, since it's not in my area yet anyways.

my wifi is always on. my 3g is off unless i need maps or internet away from home. my screen brightness is at 0. i push my gmail but auto sync on everything else is off. i get about 10 - 20 emails a day depending. when i got it i plugged it in to 100% and then played all day. i charge it every night when i go to bed.

I took mine off the charger yesterday morning at about 10:00, had the phone with me all day, made some calls, surfed a little, always check the market for more apps! LOL When I went to bed at 2:00 I still had so much battery life I didn't hook it up o the charger. Been using it all day so far today and still have 32% charge on there and it is now 5:45 PM Sunday!

I don't know why people keep asking if you charged your battery for a hour, a day .... or a week, it will effect your battery life by exactly ZERO percent. We're well past the days of Nickle Cadium battery memory effect. Lithium Ion has made that obsolete. I'm guessing the majority of us are in are 30's and have went through all the battery techs and should know the difference. The only ones I know who still think you need to condition batteries are people the age of my father. The only explanations that can explain poor life is (a) bad management of power consuming features and (b) a defective or poorly designed battery. Yours will be good or it won't.

I am lucky if I can get 3 hours battery life after a full charge!!! That's with 3g off, wifi off, screen brightnes half way and gps off. I am sorry, I love the phone, but the battery situation is unacceptable. I spend more time tethered to a power source than I do mobile working off the battery! I REALLY hope they do something about this soon or I might have to go to a different phone that can actually HOLD a charge for more than 3 hours....RIDICULOUS!

You should contact Tmobile or HTC about exchanging your obviously defective battery.

I think you found the magic formula!

Turn your brightness off. Doesn't need to be on at all :) You can see it just fine.

I have noticed that playing music even through the included headphones kills the battery quick, I was able to play music for about 4.5hrs before having to recharge. But tomorrow I will see how the g1 holds up without playing any music.
Playing music on any htc phone kills the battery fast so its not only the g1s fault.
Also I'm not ina 3g area but I keep the option open to use other networks other than 2g because tmo might start testing 3g here soon.. but tomorrow at work I will turn that feature off.
