I got my G1 on 22nd in the T-mobile store. During purchase I signed up for $25 data plan. So I expected to have 400 test messages. In 2 days I texted about 60 messages and wanted to see how to track it on T-mobile.com.
When I looked on my usage there were 60 over limit texts and about $20 for that. So I am calling to T-mobile to find out what is going on… What made me mad is that there are actually 3 data plans. Third data plan has same price $25 and doesn’t have any texts, it has only 3g internet.
Really WTF why would they have 2 plans for same price but one doesn’t have texting? Make sure to check what plan you have, it looks like t-mobile scam.

It's not a scam. It takes a few days for the plan to get activated, if you upgraded at least.

All data plans are going to this type format and we offer the data only feature for people who have family plans and have the family text package. You can check your text on your phone anytime with #674#. Also just call customer care and ask them to bump the plan and backdate it and that should cover the text overage with no worries.

I think it was already activated. I had to manually change my plan on website and choose right plan. Yeah they did backdate it for me. Just to make sure everyone else know this before bill comes in and its going to be +$60 over.

No call customer care you can change on the web but only makes it effective from that point on . If you call a rep can backdate to the begining of the month for you releaving any over charges so you dont get billed for the extra.

The third data plan without texts is for people who want to keep their unlimited family texting plans.

I did and it was fixed for me. I just want to make sure everyone else know that there are 3 plans and it needs to be fixed before bill comes.

Call them and they will be happy to fix it for you and not charge you for those used messages. I was under the impression they would auto add the plan but I had to call too.
I tried dialing #674# and it gave me an error.
