View Full Version : Adjusting Trackball Sensitivity?

I've got a question, I have searched in the manual, and online, without luck, obviously! But has anyone found any info on 'adjusting the trackball sensitivity'? Mine is WAY too sensitive, almost to the point where it's un-useable! The slightest touch, and it'll go from the bottom of a page to the top. While this might be good for GETTING from the bottom to the top quickly, it makes for filling out forms almost impossible, I have to use the touch-screen.
So, anyone out there in G1 Land found where you can adjust it in the settings, because I have not?
Thanks....

no, i haven't found a way to adjust it.
it's one of 100s of settings that need to be liberated by our benevolent developers for everyday users to adjust. Like the keyboard backlighting, for god's sake.
Can someone please write a Tweak UI for Android? pretty please?:D
I'd like to be able to adjust the sensitivity as well. I've had too stop using mine.

i find that sometimes its super sensitive sometimes... like: in lists of links, when scrolling through written text in the browser to make an adjustment it will suddenly go off my typed text to a different part of the page.
But at the same times, when im trying to edit text in the browser it takes FOREVER to get a few words down.
This is something needed in Android- as well as a touchscreen calibrator - so your G1 can learn your tapping technique better.
(ie it learns where you tap in relation to targets on the screen- so it learns what you consider "on target" is)
However, the Sidekick really had the best method for general and precision movement on a page- and that was the trackball/dpad combo.
The track ball could handle medium speed movement on a page- the Dpad would handle click-by-click movement, and the red/green phone buttons would handle page up/down fast movement on a page.. it was really a good setup.

Yes, I also have that when trying to fill out forms, the ball, "ain't on the ball!!". It's supersonicwhen trying to navigate pages, but try to go from the end of a box you just filled out to, say, the beginning to fix a typo, and it could take a week, and then it keeps jumpping outta to box!!

I feel exactly the same way.
The default sensitivity on the Pearl was dynamite. It wasn't variable.

I've had the same problem also.
I wonder if there's a diagnostic screen for the G1

To go to the beginning or end of a text field, hold ALT while move the trackball left or right.
To go to a certain point in the text field, just tap the screen at that point.
It would be nice to have the option to also jump by word, but the above two options work for most situations

I've sent blank msgs thanks to the rollerball. LOL! And to add insult to injury...to a hater who replies "..all that fancy phone and you can't send a text msg" so I am rah-rahing trackball sensitivity training!

It would be really nice if they came out with a registry editor!

Registry editor? Android is based on linux, not Windows.

Does anyone know if there =are= plans to add touchscreen calibration and trackball sensitivity adjustment?

Hehehe. You think you could calibrate the touchscreen? Hmmm. You mean adjust sensitivity? Sure.
I 40th the trackball sensitivity request. The thing is twitchy. RIM had theirs tuned to boredom--just like everything else on blackberry--but at least it didn't cause the caret to jump all over the screen.

it's too slow scrolling through text messages to edit them, though. bothersome. angrifying.

Do you mean I'm using the wrong terminology? That could be. What I'm talking about is improving the aspect/property of the touch screen which recognizes touch areas. For example, the most frustrating thing is trying to touch action-spots near the bottom edge. No matter how careful I am, now matter how close I get to swearing at the thing :D I just can't get the G1 to respond to touch on that part of the screen. So in my thinking it's not a case of touch screen sensitivity but calibration. Does this clarify what I mean or do I need to stop mixing cola brands late in the evening :) when I'm trying to describe a G1 problem?

Well I dunno dude, you might have a bad screen.
Have you tried one of the drawing-graphics programs to see how accurate the phone is with your fingertip? Also, do you still have the factory/temporary screen protector film still on? I do and that's why my screen isn't 100% accurate.

I have also noticed the G1 is slightly unresponsive towards the bottom of the screen. Specifically in the lower left hand corner.(Keyboard closed, device upright)

Great idea on the drawing program... plus I just checked and I =do= still have the factory screen protector still on so will try out your suggestions.

Adjusting the trackball sensitivity would be great.
Trying to find the right link to click on some pages is difficult. Especially on forums!!!

I have also noticed that the android screen is kind of unresponsive toward the entire far left edge. When its in portrait mode. I have used the drawing tools and it messes up when u get close to the edge.
And adjusting the trackball would be great its too sensitive.
